I just read Matt's book. What did you think about it? I really wasn't impressed.

Re: T

  • I loved it.  I mean I bawled my eyes out the whole time. Like totally ugly crying in places.    But really it was an amazing read.  Really inspiring. I could really relate to it in spots. I mean yes there were some of the technical writing issues that I might have expected done differently from a professinal writer.  But he isn't a professional writer so I forgave a lot of that.  It really gave me great insight into what he went through.  Everyone grieves differently.  It was interesting to see how he grieved and made it through that horribly tough first year of being a parent, while also grieving his wife.

ETA: What didn't you like about it?

I agree with you about seeing how he greived. I don't know. Maybe I"m just a biitch lol. I felt it was all over the place. At one point I was confused in the timeline of things. I couldn't put the book down- read it in 24 hours, so it was addicting, but I think I was reading hoping it will make sense to me, and it didn't. I dunno. Maybe because I know the story already that it didn't effect me? I dunno lol.

  • I do hear you about the jumping around on a few spots. Those were the technical things that I chose to overlook.  But I did notice it.  But the details of the book were amazing, and the words he chose to express certain things.  I have been looking a some of his older pictures and want to go though some of the older blog posts too.  It was raw just like the blog which I think fits him well.  I think the fact that it wasn't over edited that it still felt a little like the blog was what i liked.

I am so glad he wrote it because there was a lot in the book that he really never touched on in the blog.  Like the day Liz died, and the few days after that.  That part of the book was filled with such raw emotion.  But really I found it inspiring that he stayed true to himself and to what Liz would have wanted while raising Maddy that first year (nd since then).  It took such amazing strength.  And I am sure that Maddy will love that she will be able to have that when she older to help remember her mom, and see how much her dad loves her.
