Where would you buy a home?

We are newlyweds, moving back to the Cincinnati area and wanting to buy our first home! We don't want kids for a couple years, so schools are not important at this point... we want to live somewhere a little more "fun" for 5-7 years and then move to a better school district when it matters.

So where would you buy? We want to be closer to downtown, and somewhere with shopping, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. We have started looking into small homes or townhouses in the Hyde Park, Mt Lookout, My Adams areas. What about into Oakley or Norwood, would you recommend these areas? Other options?

Thanks!

Re: Where would you buy a home?

  • DH and I just bought a house in Norwood and like the area, but for what you are looking for I would stick to the areas you are already looking.

  • We own in Clifton and absolutely love it. You want to be North of UC, closer to the Ludlow shopping district.

  • We just bought in NKY for all the reasons that you don't want to be buying so I'm no help but the areas you mentioned sound good. Good luck!

  • My Husband and I just built a home in Fort Thomas, but before we lived here we lived in the best area for just getting married imo. We lived in a condo in walking distance to Mt. Adams, Mirror Lake, Eden Park, Krohn Conservatory and 2 minutes from 471, 71 and 75... it was great. We even rode our bikes downtown a couple of times. It was great for us after we got married and loved the location. Mt. Lookout, Oakley, Hyde Park, Norwood, Newport... are also great locations. I like being close to downtown. There are also some nice lofts downtown if you are interested in going that route. Good Luck and if you are interested our old neighbors are selling their condo.
  • Thanks everyone!

jiml- Yes we love the idea of being close to downtown but don't want to actually live in the city... although I agree, there are some awesome lofts! The condo might be a little too soon... we are not seriously looking for another couple of months... but  wouldn't hurt to check it out at least, do you have an online link for it that you could post?

  • Oh, thank you - Love it! Something like that would be perfect for us. Like I said, we are still a couple of months away from actually buying anything but I'll keep an eye on this one for sure!
