yet another bed question

We have a queen sized bed right now. Last night we went bed shopping and we laid down in a king for the 1st time. OMG there was so much room! I really want one now. But our bedroom isn't huge and I am not sure that we should give up the extra room.

what would you do?

tia!!

Re: yet another bed question

  • We have a king because that was the size of DH's bed when he moved up here. I want a queen because of the NO ROOM in the bedroom thing. I think it would look better plus we can actually buy a BED (frame). Right now we just have the mattress on the cheapy thing you can get.

  • I think a queen is plenty big, and a king would just overpower the room.  I would be annoyed by having a huge bed taking up all rthe space in the bedroom.

  • Are one of you very tall?

My DH is 6'5" and his feet hang off a queen. We probably should have a California King but we have a regular king.  He would hate me if I downsized even if it does take up a lot of the room.

  • we have a king size bed and we paid way too much money for it. plus now that we are looking at houses we have to make sure our bed fits in the master bedroom. i would stick to a comfortable and affordable queen size.

Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>
  • A king size bed wouldn't fit in my bedroom. I don't know how big yours is though, so it's tough to say. I'm a bed hog so it doesn't matter how big the bed is, I push MH into a little corner every single night. Sucks to be him. LOL. Something else to keep in mind is that king size bedding is more expensive than queen size.
  • DH and I have a queen and would LOVE to buy a King. We were very close, and then he switched to working the overnight shifts, so now we are actually only in bed together 2-3 nights per week. So, now it's not worth it to spend the money on a King.

  • We have the room and have a king but I think even if it were a tight fit I'd probably have still gotten it because I love to sleep and I need my room cause I don't want B on top of me while I'm trying to get it!  So it'd be more important to me to have the size bed I want and be happy then the look of it.   We came from a place where a queen was tight soooo maybe that's where I got it in my head that it wouldn't matter to me because certainly we weren't going to sleep on a twin so it was what it was and it didn't bother me.

I get my sheets in Homegoods - calvin klein $40 a set which I don't think is too bad for king and they are super soft.

This was also our problem! B is the same height, he wanted a CA king but I forget why we decided against it.. maybe because the sheets were hard to find?  I don't remember

  • MH is also 6'5" so we didnt have a choice.  Now that I have it I would NEVER go back.  My bedroom is sorta tight.  When we moved in, the movers tried 5 times and then they told us they couldnt fit our bed up the stairs.  So DH and his friend made a whole in the wall so we could get it in the room, then patched the whole and painted- that's how much he loves it!  Honestly I dont care if it's tight.  We dont really hang out in there anyway so it doesnt matter.  It's actually kind of a bummer whenever we go away and get stuck with a queen or something. But we are also the type of people who are anti-cuddle.

  • I would go with the king, regardless of room size. I can never picture going back to a queen. I'd rather get two beds than share anything but a king with DH.  DH is a bed hog and I used to wake up in the middle of the night as I was being pushed off the bed.  The tempurpedic king saved our sleeping relationship.

  • We have a queen because we never thought a king would fit in our room. It would def be a tight fit but now that i look at it we probably could have made it work. Because we both feel the queen is too small. DH is a big guy and I'm small but i like my space....we are always bickering about it.   Now of course we refuse to buy a new one because we spent so much on the queen.

  • DH and I have a FULL size bed right now...ugh!  So a queen sounds like bliss.

I guess I would take measurements and see if is worth the sacrifice on space.  Because I am a visual person (and a dork), I would probably cut out strips of newspaper that make up the size difference and lay them along side your current bed to really see how much room it would take.

You aren't alone, we are in a full too!  I don't want to get anything bigger until we buy a house rather than rent.  While we easily could have fit 2 California king beds in our last house, we can barely squeeze a full in the bedroom here.  I hope to settle for just a queen one day in the future.

This!  We got a king because I move a round a lot and usually end up sleeping at a angle and then DH would have no room!  We stayed overnight one day at my parents house and I felt the queen we slept in was too small...
