Have you tried it and do you like it?
I haven't tried it but I've heard Chobani in the preferred brand and as for liking it, it all depends on the flavor.
This morning they were handing out free samples of Athenos brand, so I'm skipping my Yoplait snack to try the greek. I know it's high in protien and supposed to be better for you...but when I've looked at the store, it's like triple the price!
Re: Greek Yogurt?
My four year old nephew LOVES Greek yogurt, and always has. They buy the Fage brand. I bought it once, just to try it because it is supposed to be good for you, and if a four year old loves it, surely it must be good, right?
It was quite possibly the worst thing I've ever eaten! I don't get why there's so much hype around it.
I'm curious to see what everyone else says. I'm a fairly picky eater, so it could just be me.

I love greek yogurt. I've tried Chobani, Oikos and Danon. I really like Oikos the best but its over a dollar so I never get it unless it's on sale. I ate chobani for a while and really liked the flavors they had but it always seemed like they were just a little too big so when my store got the Danon I tried it and really like it (they're 75c each here). I know Chobanis website has coupons for it that you can download too, I haven't found any for Danon though.
I always get a fruit one and on the occasion that I get vanilla or honey I will mix in some granola. I never get plain though. I've heard it can be good to substitute in recipes for sour cream, etc but I've never tried it.
Also if you're just looking for a healthy alternative you could also try Stonyfield - DH love the Stonyfield fruit on the bottom yogurts. They're usually under a dollar a cup too.
Greek yogurt tends to be more expensive than other yogurts but I guess it's partially about where you like to spend your money. DH and I are health nuts so we are willing to spend a little bit more on food to get better quality products.

I used to eat Stoneyfield growing up! Although I don't think I've had it recently.
I agree on the spending more to be healthy...but it'd be great to utilize coupons!
Ashlee- We usually do Yoplait light also (unless Dannon is on sale), but I overhead someone saying how it's sweetened with aspartame (sp?) and then when I looked at the ingrediants I realized it has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it, which I've been trying really hard to eliminate from our diet.

I've been told that the trick for the Chobani brand is to make sure it is mixed very well and the fruit flavors are much better than say the honey. I buy the Oikos plain and use it to replace sour cream or I mix it with dijion mustard in a chicken salad recipe I make.
I've been trying to eliminate this too (not to hijack your post). It's really tough sometimes. Make sure you check your bread!

No worries. I hadn't thought of bread! Weird!! I've noticed a lot of the marinades we used to buy have it. It's surprising where it's used, bread?! By golly!

Yea a lot of bread has it in it
Arnold's brand is pretty safe from what I've found. Jelly is tough too, I had to buy some pretty pricey organic jelly this weekend for DH. I told him he better take his time using it

Haha, trying to revive some of the oldies :O)

I eat Chobani every day.....the key is to MIX IT....pineapple is the best, i love them all sadly not the mango
it keeps me fuller longer, i've tried the yoplait and dont like it.....its just so yummy....i love it
that being said it takes getting used to......
Getting fit for IVF!
Tried Chopani. Hated it.
Eat Yoplait Greek Yogurt every day. Love it.
Had Fage tonight. It may be my new fav.
So from my experience, if you try one brand of Greek yogurt and dislike it, try another. Also, check out the fat content. Some use full-fatted milk, and oh-my-goodness that's a lot of fat grams. Others are non-fat or 2%, and in my opinion (in addition to being better for the wasteline) their texture is better.
I did try Greek yogurt, however, just to see how much different it was.
Tasted the same to me. Yick.

1. BEST YOGURT
Fage Total 2% Plain Greek Yogurt (7 oz container)
130 calories
4 g fat (3 g saturated)
17 g protein
8 g sugars
Yogurt is teeming with calcium, which promotes muscle growth; and probiotic bacteria, which bolsters your immune system. What's more, study participants who ate yogurt daily lost 81 percent more belly fat than those who didn't, according to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity. So why Greek? Because the Greek stuff has more than double the protein of standard American-style yogurt-and far less sugar. Want to make it even healthier? Add a few berries along with some nuts or seeds.
zomg! Em's back on the board! :P
I'm a yogurt nut (i.e. I've tried like 200 brands, and I dislike 198 of them
My big thing against Yoplait and Danon is that they are notorious for putting artificial sweeteners and dyes in their products. My friend worked in a Danon facility... she got to watch cochinea insects being scraped of screens for extraction of what so many of us consume as "carminc acid" - i.e. cochinea 'juice'... it's used as a red food dye.
this type of thing just hurts my brain... the only thing I want coloring my yogurt is the damn strawberries.
I'm a big fan of the "6 ingredient rule", all of which should be pronounceable by a 6th grader
EM! So, it takes us talking about yogurt to get you back on the board?? You must be pretty passionate about the stuff
Miss you around here...
Hannah - I must've missed this post, but I agree that Chobani is on point. I just recently discovered it and I'm not a huge yogurt fan but I'm into this stuff!
