Hello ladies- my DH and I are new to the area and are looking to try out some churches to help us meet people. If you could recommend a few that would be very helpful to us.
Random question but also what is the best pizza in town?
Re: New to the area
What side of town do you live on?
In the Beaverdale area I've gone to Westminster Presbyterian and my sister goes to Zion Lutheran. A lot of folks head out west to Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
My fave pizza is up in Ames: Great Plains but as far as DSM we love Bordenaro's on the southside by Army Post Road but usually get take out from Godfathers or Caseys just because it's easy and close.
We also enjoy Fong's (crab rangoon pizza? yes please!) and we tried Gusto on Saturday night and it was pretty good too.
No suggestions on churches as I attend a Catholic church
Pizza:
I LOVE Paesano's Pizza on SW 9th in DSM
Welcome!
Hi, welcome!!
Sorry, same.
Pizza - Centro, Big Tomato, and The Tavern are some of my favorites

We were married at Norwalk United Methodist and my SIL still attends there. We are currently members of Waukee United Methodist and love it. Its small enough that you actually get to know people, but not so small that everyone is in your business! :-)
I'll second Fong's downtown for awesome and unique pizza. Their crab ragoon and loaded potato are to die for! For a quick take-out we also love Casey's. Its greasy gas station pizza, but so very yummy.
N help with churches.
We love Big Tomato, Fongs, and Gusto for pizza.

Casey's pizza is by FAR my fav!
I drive 10 miles to attend the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas Center, LOVE small, intimate churches that you can turn into your family! If you decide to attend let me know so I can introduce you!
No help on churches.
Best pizza - Casey's or Scornovacca's! We also love Papa Murphy's Take & Bake
No help on churches, but I would recommend Wig & Pen in Ankeny for pizza.
Welcome to the area and to the board!
Welcome! LOVE my church but it's mostly an older congregation- Union Park Methodist.
Pizza: Ankeny- Wig & Pen, East side- Hilltop, Southside- Scorno's, Downtown- toss up between Fong's and Centro, Beaverdale- Christopher's, West side- toss up between Tavern and Coach's Corner. Gee. I like pizza, huh?
If you are on the east side of town, I would try Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. We were members there for years and years until we moved further west and the drive was just too long to help us feel that sense of "community" you look for in a church.
Pizza, I second Casey's. It's a great family night pizza to pick up and eat at home. Their Taco pizza is the best! Many people also like Happy Joe's for Taco pizza if you are a fan of that. For restaurants to eat at, Centro's is good but pricey. Fongs is great pizza if you want a fun night out with lots of unique pizza choices.
Welcome to the area!
