race update!

First off I want to say thank you to everyone for your encouragement and support! You ladies really are amazing (but you already know that!) I have never felt so supported in anything I have done before..it really feels good!

The race went pretty well! The weather was perfect-in the 50's and sunny. I was hot in my capris! I ended up running with 2 girls from my team that I ran with a few times. They are usually a bit slower than I am, but on race day I knew to go easy in the beginning. My legs started to get really tight and heavy about Natick (maybe mile 12 ish). I was starting to get concerned because I was just about half way there. But one I passed Wellesley and started to know the area and I knew the hills were coming, I started to feel better. And honestly I saw Dani at mile 16 and knew she wasn't going to run HBH with me so I sucked it up, put on my big girl panties, and got me some bitchin' focus! I kicked the crap outta HBH! So much that I said to someone "are we done, is that it?" And I was SO surprised that I made it and it was easier than any training run. I even though of our own Karen as I was coming up to BC. I envisioned her singing the BC fight song that she did on our last run together! As soon as the Citgo sign was in sight I got SO happy! I knew the end was near and it was only 4 miles left. I ditched my slower friend and proceed to speed up. People were telling me how good I looked and I was like holy *** I AM GONNA DO THIS!! I got a bit teary eyed thinking of my dad and I asked him to stay with me until I finished. And I know he did b/c I finished SO strong!

I can't believe it's over. The weekend was really hard on my mom. She said it opened up all the wounds again and made her feel the pain again. I feel so bad. That was not my intention and she knows it. She is very proud but sad too. Bittersweet to say the least.

Well if you made it this far you are a superstar! Thanks again everyone!!

  • You are awesome Pam!! I was tracking you and when I saw your pace, I figured out that I would be in the middle of a staff meeting when you were going to be crossing the finish line. I was so mad I couldn't get over to Copley, but I got the text during my meeting when you finished and felt so happy for you!! What an incredible accomplishment!!

  • Awwww. Glad I could help! I gotta say, I was worried when I saw the 5K split, but then your pace started to level off. I was so happy when you started picking it up at the end. YOU are the rockstar.

I'm sorry it was a hard weekend for your mom. I can see how it could be bittersweet. Your heart is in the right place, and I know she is proud in spite of the sadness.

  • You were awesome girlfriend...and you looked amazing running...there were a lot of people who ran by me and were struggling and you could read it on their face but as soon as Steve yelled he saw you and I saw your face you had none of that look--you were totally with it and were killing it, I knew then you had HBH on your own!  It was all that bitchin' focus I tell ya! :D

What you did was celebration of your dad's life and the impact his life made on all those around him--and those he didn't know.  You going out there and doing an amazing job in your fundraising, and running, and your personal life holding it all together and getting through this ordeal--it's all a testamony to that celebration of life.  And though I had the opportunity to meet your dad--I know that he was with you and proud of you every stride yesterday!

Now hurry up and recover--we got some miles to run! ;)   <3 You!

Thanks for the race update and great job Pam!!  Your dad is so proud of you.  What a wonderful way to honor his memory.  Thanks for helping to kick cancer's ass.  When I was looking at your fundraising page a few days before the race and I saw my donation, it made me cry because it was before my aunt passed away so it was "in honor of" her.  I am very thankful that you were able to raise so much money in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.
  • You are truly amazing, Pam!!  I am so so impressed and amazed by what you did  :)
  • ****tears flowing here****
