Doctor help - what kind of doc for this??
This is going to sound kinda odd so bear with me! I need to see a doctor but I'm not sure what kind. On my pointer finger - right hand (opposite writing hand) I can feel like a "bump" on the bone near the crease by the hand. It's not on any of my other fingers. When I press it or try and rub it the finger will get sore and discomfort.
I know it's odd.
I was going to see the normal family doc but I know she'll send me to someone so I thought I'd bypass her (and save my copay).
Re: Doctor help - what kind of doc for this??
I don't have an answer to your actual question, but I did have the exact same problem as you (same spot, same finger). I asked my family doctor about it, and he asked if there was anything I did on a daily basis that involved that part of my hand/finger. I realized that it was the way I was holding my steering wheel during my 1.5 hr commute each day. He said it was a cyst and that it would probably go away on its on own if I stopped gripping the steering wheel that way. It took about 1-2 months, but the pain completely went away and the cyst got a lot smaller. However, 2 years later, the cyst is still there. It doesnt' hurt and it doesnt ever bother me b/c I don't even know its there unless I specifically feel for it. I know they can be removed if they are causing problems/discomfort, but in my case I don't think that's necessary.
So I guess what I'm saying is that if you can think of something you're doing that might be the cause, then maybe try "not" doing that particular thing for a little while? If that doesnt help, then maybe you really need yours removed.
