I've been watching the news this morning because the Burlington Mall was evacuated at 10am because there was someone in the mall with a gun. There has been live coverage of the mall for almost 2 hours.
Channel 5 just reported that it was actually an umbrella!
Re: Burlington Mall Fiasco
That's amazing. I'm glad they're diligent and all, but jeez.
It reminds me of when the entire city shut down over that stupid graffiti a couple of years ago.
Love this.
How could someone make that mistake? And why did it take so long to figure it out? Crazy.
Apparently TWO different people reported a man with a gun. Then the guy got home and realized they were describing him, so he called the police. They brought him in and checked the surveillance videos with the witnesses and figured it all out.
OMG
An umbrella. Really? How very mall cops.
BTW- DS has allergic reaction, who knows what to what. He gets benadryl every 6 hours for 24 hours and we just have to try to figure it out!
Aw poor little man
I was worried you might STILL be at the doctor when you didn't text me back!
Do they think it was a food reaction to something you ate or something that he touched (a different lotion/wash/detergent)? Because that's a pretty severe and immediate reaction if it's something in your BM!
Oh no, I hope he's OK. I'm a big baby about allergic reactions; hope he's handling it better than I do
That's rough on you guys, too.
Wow .. that's crazy.
Side note: I had originally planned on going shopping at Burlington today. Glad I was lazy and decided to stay home.
I just remembered how nutty that parking lot is on a good day - virtually unnavigable. I can't imagine what it was like when it was being evacuated.
And Punky, I hope they can figure out what your son is allergic to soon, the poor guy! (And poor you!)
the guy works at Lahey Clinic (which is up the street from the mall) and it sounds like he headed back to work shortly after the cops were called. so at first they were searching the store and the areas around the mall. it all got called off when the guy got back to work and saw the news and realized they were talking about him! he called the Burlington police and they brought him in to clear it up.
Haha DH just told me about this when I picked him up at work. The other day we were actually at a stoplight in Reading and there was this super shady guy in a black trenchcoat standing on the side of the road with what looked like a sword (the handle was like a sword and he had it tucked under his arm strangely). We just locked the doors and tried not to make eye contact until the light changed but when he walked away we realized it was an umbrella. It was definitely designed to look like a sword though. What is it with the umbrellas?!
Punky, hope your little man feels better soon!

I was there...well I was attempting to get to the Rain Forest Cafe. The police had all the entrances blocked, and there were 6 helicopters...the SWAT team was there. I had no idea what was going on, and I was freaking out thinking that something really awful was happening. I called DH, and he told me there was a gunman in the mall.
I am glad it ended up being an umbrella.
Punky--I hope the baby feels better, and you can figure out what he is allergic to.
Looks more like a sword to me.
Better safe than sorry I guess, but what a crazy story. At least the guy saw the news quickly so it didn't drag on longer.
