I hope this doesn't get too long, I need some help!
I've been a SaHM for about 4 years now, but am still a licensed atty. I am now ready to go back to work, but the market here isn't great. I also went to law school out of state so I don't have a lot of contacts or networking help.
My DH plays tennis with an atty who works at a medium firm (18 attys), but the main atty is VERY well known, as in nationwide famous. I would love to work there.
I noticed a posting for an appellate position online and had DH email his friend to find out more about the position b/c the posting was pretty vague. I had an internship during law school at a prosecutor's office and was being trained to take over the appellate position, but the atty decided not to retire (boo!).
DH's atty friend emailed back and said to have me call him on Thurs. or Fri. and that he "would like to help."
So I'm wondering what I should be prepared to talk about during this phone call. What would you want to know from someone in my position? What should I be prepared to ask him?
TIA! I really appreciate it!
Re: Q for Lawyers - re applying & interviewing (sort of)
I would ask him:
Good luck.
This. I did a whole lot of that when I was interviewing and it was hugely helpful.
As Blueyed suggested, I would also be ready to discuss specifically WHY that firm. I'd also discuss why I want to get back into practicing and what in my background has specifically prepared me for that job. And what you've been doing while SAH to stay up with that area of the law.....publication subscriptions, conferences, CLE, etc.
