(baby) shower anxiety

My shower is this weekend, and so far very few things have been purchased off our registry. None of the big things have been bought except our carseat which is apparently on back order. I know people aren't obligated to buy us anything, and we're fully prepared to buy the things we need. I'm just not real excited about spending all that money!

The bakery that is doing my cake is kind of being stupid about the whole thing. I brought in a picture to show them what I wanted, and no one seems to want to take any responsibility for helping me. They keep saying I need to talk to person A, then person B. It's really not that hard! 2 tiers, white fondant, pink polka dots, with a rubber ducky on top. I wish someone would just say "no problem, we'll take care of it."

Then this morning I woke up with what I think is a stye on my eyelid. It's kind of pink and swollen, so I'm trying to keep it clean and make-up free. Hopefully it clears up by this weekend!

*edited the title so you guys don't think I have a fear of taking showers!

Re: (baby) shower anxiety

  • So, when I first read your post I thought to myself.....sure is kind of late in life to realize she has a phobia of taking a shower.  Then I realized I'm blonde, LOL!

Back to your point - have the cake people said they will make the cake or just keep telling you to talk to other people?  I'd go crazy pregnant lady on them!

Don't worry about the shower.  Remember when we all got married and registry stalked?  People bought stuff the day before or forgot to give the the papers when they checked out.  I wouldn't sweat it :)

Totally this!  There was a huge flurry of activity the week before, and the day of!, my showers.  Just be prepared for a lot of blankets, bibs/burp clothes and clothing.

I was thinking the same thing! I didn't know u were referring to your baby's shower. Don't sweat the registry. I was driving myself crazy stalking it to the point where I had to force myself to stay off! Everything will work out just fine. Don't stress over it! I hope your eye clears up.

No one told me they can't make it at this point. They just keep saying "well so and so is making it, and if they have questions they'll call you". That doesn't make me 100% comfortable since the directions have changed hands so many times. Plus the cake has a rubber ducky on top, and no one told me they don't have rubber duckies until I asked specifically about it. Then they say "oh yea, you need to provide us with one". No problem, but why did I have to ask?!? The freaking duck is right on top of the cake, front and center in the picture - it's kind of hard to miss!

  • Please don't sweat it.  This is probably the last shower you will ever have so just enjoy it.

People definitely shop more last minute for baby showers vs bridal showers.  I feel like people are much more relaxed about them.

  • About the registry - totally what everyone else said. People who buy from the registry never shop early. That said, we got very few things from our registry, and we had 2 baby showers. People gave us some nice things, but really, what's the point of a silver plated baby spoon and fork? On the other hand, Nate's two most favorite blankets, which he carries around like Linus from Peanuts, were shower gifts - handmade, not from the registry. Where would we be without the special blankies?

About the cake - I think it's going to turn out ok.

  • Ditto everyone else. I am that sorry sucker who shops for your registry gift the day before or day of the event because I kept forgetting to get it done! But since you are having a girl more people may be likely to stray from the registry and buy you cute outfits. At least she'll be fully clothed for awhile Smile

    I'm guessing the same thing.

  • I wouldn't worry about it, Ali.

Just try to enjoy yourself in the meantime. I can't believe your shower is already here!

  • Try not to sweat it, everything will come together. I'm always guilty of wasting until the last minute to buy a shower gift.

  • I wouldnt sweat it. I too am a last minute buyer of things off of the registries. Also maybe they are giving you gifts cards? Or like PPs said maybe they made some homemade stuff for you. That stuff is always nice. Try not to stalk your registry. (easier said than done, I know!)
  • Try to enjoy the shower, I thought of it as the last hoorah for me, so I ate up all the attention Embarrassed

Also, don't set your expectations to high on what people will give you.  I was a little disappointed when basically one person ended up buying from our registry.  We got SO many burp cloths and blankets, even people at the shower joked at the ridiculous amount.

However, after little man was born, a lot more people purchased from our registry - especially out of towners.

  • The only big items we got from the registry were gifts our family purchased. Friends and distant family either bought small items last minute off the registry, handmade something, or bought something on their own. And although we had to buy 90% of the big items, getting all of the small items was a huge help! Oh and don't discount the gift card and money givers! We got quite a few monetary gifts and those don't show up on the registry :)
