anyone had such experience..? looking for advice

I?m just posting to see if anyone else has had an experience like this and if so what to expect.

I applied to a position directly on a company?s website. It?s a biotech company.  The position was posted on the career section of their website with no posting date. So I wrote a tailored cover letter and CV and emailed it to them. A week later I received an email saying they?re not expecting to be hiring in the next few months, they?re in a period where they're trying to see their personnel needs, but would like to talk with me to learn about my current and future plans.

Given I look for any opportunity to network of course I am excited and going to meet them knowing they?re not going to be hiring.  I?m just curious if anyone else has been in this position? What should I expect? I'm trying to prepare for it in my head...

if you have had such experience, i'd love to hear about it. thanks!

Re: anyone had such experience..? looking for advice

  • Congratulations, you have impressed them.  They want to take the time and trouble to talk to you about a future project that may or may not go forward.  Gov't funding or R&D funding may be up in the air.   Treat it as a potential job interview and make the contacts necessary; but do not get your hopes up for quick job offer.

When my office has filled all its available positions, we will continue to interview to have on hand a listing of candidates should someone choose to leave.   Our industry is very specialized and it is difficult to find a good fit.

  • thank you, I am going to treat it like a real interview. we'll see what happens i guess...
