Just scored an almost free lunch for Henry...

Paid 25 cents for a banana from the little kiddie fruit cart. Then the chef in the middle of the produce area gave use multiple samples of the halibut he made because he loved that Henry liked it.  Deli counter lady gave us the sample slices of the cheese and turkey I bought.

Too bad I couldn't score a piece of bread or a roll from the bakery - they only give out cookies ;)

Well, he fell asleep on the way home and is still sleeping in his crib now.

Yay for multitasking - grocery shopping and (protein packed) lunch! Hahaha

  • Haha sweet!   What a healthy, cheap meal.  :)

I took T to the grocery store on Saturday.  He somehow managed to grab the bunch of bananas and took a bite (peel and all) out of the side of one when I wasn't looking.  Hehe.

As soon as I paid, I let him have it.  He loves bananas.

I was nice enough to remove the peel for him that time.  Wink

  • Ha - awesome!  What a good little eater. :-)

    Love it!!

  • LOL at the picture D&M!

Hoektastic - that is why I love Sam's.  If you time it right, lunch is all right there for you!

Yes! Once when we went to Costco, the lady was giving out halves of the Angus Cheeseburgers. Halves!! It was a major sample score. We reminisce about that day often. "Ahhh...remember when we got a half a cheeseburger. That was the best."

  • What a great trip!

Des&Mol - a lot of Meijer has kids fruit cart. They have a cash box you can put your quarter in and get a banana or apple.

The kids love samples at Costco. I keep saying I need to get those white souflle cups for home because Allison is willing to try new foods from there but not at home. I need to put dinner in those little cups.

I've done something similar; Caleb was being real picky for too many days (I knew he HAD to eat something soon) so I put his lunch into cupcake papers in a 6-cup muffin tin. He gobbled it all.

I am going to have to keep my eye out for that!

Making mental note for when T inevitably becomes a picky eater.

I agree, putting several smaller servings of different foods does the trick for us too.  And bonus points for if it is cut up in a cute shape.  My kids get so excited when I make lunch for them this way.

  • Mia pretty much eats about anything but it has to be from my plate. She will have the exact thing on her plate and won't touch it, but she will eat it if I feed it from my plate. Sometimes she will lean over and pull stuff right off. Bad table manners...but at least she is eating. :)
