I'm a contract worker who's got a six-month deal with my current company. My end date is in about four weeks.
There's been no mention from my managers about my end date, but I'd be shocked if they didn't extend my contract or hire me as a full-time employee ... they seem to like me and have praised my work quite often, I have a lot of responsibilities that wouldn't be easily transfered to anyone else, and the company is doing well financially and has hired several people since I started here.
I would love to stay here ... but if they can't keep me here, then I'd like to start looking for a new job ASAP so that I don't have to start from scratch on my last day and be unemployed any longer than I have to be.
Any tips for how I should approach my managers about this? They're really friendly and I think that flat-out asking, "Do you plan to extend my contract?" would go over fine, but since I've never done this before I wanted to see if I'm missing something. TIA for your thoughts.
Re: Any contractors here? Need advice
Just ask. Your contract probably isn't top of mind, they may not even remember that it is ending soon. If you have a weekly meeting with your manager, just mention that your contract will be expiring in a month, and you're wondering what they plan to do. If you don't get a definitive answer, ask when they will have one.
