Someone explain Shellac to me please

Is it a fake nail or type of nail polish?

Re: Someone explain Shellac to me please

  • It is the greatest thing ever. I sometimes use OPI Axxium which is the same thing.

Its a gel that is put on your real nail that is a nail polish. The gel is placed under a light and it "sets" - and doesn't chip. It lasts up to two weeks.

I totally agree! So much better and healthier for your nails than acrylics.

Do you do this yourself or go to the salon?

If you go to the salon, what is the cost?  TIA

  • You have it done at a salon. I haven't paid any more than $30 for a full shellac job.

  • What do you mean by "full shellac job"?  Manicure plus special shellac polish?  Is there a special removal cost?

I can't really remember - I used to get it done at Renaissance and I think it was $45 which included a manicure.

Full shellac job to me is a manicure and polish. The price I gave you is for the Stillwater area.

  • I get it done and mine lasts about three weeks, I pay $35 for white tips.
  • So is the application just like having your nails painted? I've had acrylic nails once in my life and was traumatized by it. I will never do it again. My natural nails are pretty strong and grow like crazy so I just prefer to get a regular manicure but would love a polish that lasted longer.

Yes, application is like regular polish.... However, it does have to be "soaked off".
