Kitchen Update for Miss Megan!

I figured I would start a new post for all our kitchen chat! We are doing the work ourselves. We didn't install our cabinets, my parents have a friend that is a contractor and he did them for us for cheap. We have done pretty much everything else. My dad is an electrician so he did all the new lighting and added some outlets for me. Lance and I did the backsplash and the painting, we will be doing to trim work also. We have a good friend that lays tile, so he and Lance will be doing the floor.

Here is what we have so far (please excuse the mess, it is looking rather "lived in" today).

Here is one side:

Re: Kitchen Update for Miss Megan!

  • Thanks!  I love it!  I don't know what it looked like before, but everything looks really great!  The wine rack and hardware on the cabinets are fantastic, and I'm still loving the backsplash.  I also like the faucet you guys chose...the height makes it look really great in front of the backsplash.

I'm kind of jealous that you have so many friends/family that can help out as experts in different areas!

  • Thanks ladies!! It is so much nicer than it was. I love cooking so it is nice to finally have a kitchen that allows me to have all my kitchen utensils (for the most part) in one location.

  • I love the wine rack too!  And the white cabinents, so nice and bright! And the backsplash.  I wish we had one...even though it's a rental, I keep telling DH I want to ask our landlord if we can install one b/c I think they look awesome and would be a fun project
  • It looks great!  I can't wait to remodel our kitchen...someday.

  • It looks fantastic!  I'm so jealous of all of your cabinet space.  Like then others have said, your back splash looks really great and I totally love the kiss the cook.  Good job!

  • I think that the cabinet space is deceiving. We do have a lot more than we did because we used to have the wasted space at the top of the cabinets that is framed in and then the cabinets are attached to it, I don't know the technical name for it. Anyway, we knocked all that out so the cabinets can go all the way to the ceiling now.

We added more drawers but since we didn't have much space they are really small (narrow) and there isn't a lot of room in them, but we didn't have much more to work with.

The backsplash was super easy and relatively cheap, I think it made the remodel. I don't think that it would have looked as good without the backsplash.
