Now he is in ICU with congestive heart failure due to an enlarged aortic valve, on top of the pneumonia and an infection in the blood stream. I'm praying extra hard now, but I can't stop worrying.
My cousin (his granddaughter) is updating her FB status regularly so we all know what's going on. Continued prayers are definitely appreciated!
Thanks & lots of luv!

Re: Update on my uncle
Oh no! I will definitely keep him and your family in my thoughts. I hate that he is in ICU, but congestive heart failure is generally not nearly as terrifyingly horrible as it sounds. There have been several times that my grandfather has had this and I freak out (I mean, it says "heart" and "failure" that is scary!!!) but the doctors have always assured us it's kind of a misnomer, and he's pulled out of it just fine.
I'm not trying to make light of what your uncle is going through, just don't want you to worry extra due to that extra scary medical term. xoxo!
Thanks again, ladies! Here's an update from my cousin...
Thanks everyone for all your prayers and support. My Dad seems to be responding to the antibiotics. His vitals are (as Tommy says) "better than his" ha ha. His blood culture came back "gram negative cocci" (staph infection which he may have contracted from the hospital when he was in for pneumonia) causing septic shock. They are going to try and wean him off the ventilator tomorrow by using a C-pap backed up by the ventilator to let my Dad try and breath more on his own. Right now for every 4 breaths he takes the machine takes 9. Spoke with the cardiologist and he suggests we leave my Dad where he is for now that UPMC would do the exact same thing to treat him and the Drs. would have to begin from scratch. He also told us that before we can even think of any valve surgery my Dad needs to come home and recover for some time. There is a new procedure which is called Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve replacement (at Presby UPMC) which the Dr. said my dad may be a good candidate for. My Dad is still sedated which is a good thing otherwise he would, I'm sure, try and rip all the hoses and tubes out of himself. The Drs. said there is some improvement but that he is not out of the woods yet so please keep him in your prayers.
