I got a request from someone to be friends yesterday. She's from a Chicago suburb where one of my best friends is from and we also have 4 mutual FB friends. I didn't recognize her pic but thought I may have met here through someone else I know at some point.
Before I accepted her friend, I messaged her saying, "sorry, your name isn't familiar, have we met before?"
Her response: "Hey Hannah. No, I haven't met you. Just thought that you would be nice to add me to your friend list. Then we could kinda get to know eachother that way. Cool?"
CREEPY?!
Re: Weird FB friend request!
I think it's a little odd, but then again, my FB profile is on lockdown. But some people don't have the same hang-ups, and will add anyone and everyone.
So does she actually know your friends, or is she just that random?
I'm not sure... now I wanna FB message them and ask how they know here!

I had some chick try to friend request me a few weeks ago when my profile pic was of PapaBear....When I asked if I knew her she responded with "No, but your dog kinda looks like mine".
I try to keep my FB on lock down, but clearly I need to try harder.
And this is why I never go on FB. I get so many random friend requests...I mean, not as random as this. But, like, people who went to the same high school as me (which had 3000 students) but graduated when I was in middle school. Obviously I don't know them. Or people in other countries that I send one email to at work that want to be friends.
But I will say I've never gotten anything THIS random! I would definitely ask your other friends if they know her. I'm sure you popped up as one of those someone she may know suggestions...

Well, naturally you should be friends with her, then. I mean, gosh, you have so much in common...
You guys are nicer than I am. I will just ignore the request and not even bother to ask them if we know one another.

Yup, me too. I used to get random requests from people in Canada - apparently, some girl had my exact name in the Vancouver area. (Which is weird, because my last name is French Canadian.) But I get requests all the time from my participants, which I ignore. And I'll occasionally get a request from someone I went to high school with, but if we never spoke, I ignore them. The only people on my friends list are people I've actually had a conversation with.
Megan - I wondered before if you and I were FB friends but didn't find you. It makes sense if you never go on! (Plus I can understand not wanting to be FB friends with "internet friends" too)
Diane - That's just odd!!
Although I must confess, when FB first came out, I found another girl with the same name (middle even) as much who lived in MN. I FB friended her, but then it got really confusing to read status updates of Hannah _____ that weren't my own so I deleted her.

Yeah, I'm not worth it. Haha!
I literally go on there every three or four months when there are 20 or so friend requests waiting. In fact, I'm so terrible that I got a message on FB (it emails me when I get things) from an old friend about a month ago and still haven't gone on to reply to him. I think the last thing I updated were pictures from the wedding/honeymoon.

That is weird. Sounds like one of those FB people who needs to have a certain number of "friends".
I have a rule: if I wouldn't stop and say hi if I met you on the street, I'm not going to be your FB friend.
