Re: Home
Screw it....gimme a few to take some brand new pictures and please excuse the mess in my kitchen.
Here we go:
All of the paint used to be really dark paneling, the floor used to be carpet, appliances are updated, dishwasher added, Buddy made a cameo appearance.
Mine needs some major updating, we have done a little. I will say I do love cooking in my kitchen though.
We have an eat-in kitchen. This is the dining area:
The red is more of a burgundy red IRL.
The rest of the kitchen.
The island is new, as is the flooring. We would love new cabinets and counters, and possibly to put a french door where the back door is that leads to our deck. I would also like lighting over the island. I love the light over the sink (came with the house).
These were from the listing, we haven't changed much. We don't have the table though.
It is something we'd really like to have redone. All in time. Yay new appliances though.
The cabinets are often loved. I'm fine with them, others love them. They're originals, and sturdy.

Stand up for something you believe in.
I love my kitchen. Our living room overlooks it and there is so much natural light because of the 3 skylights. And I of course love my little cows sitting on the window above the sink.
Kitchen/Dining room combo (pictures from 2009)
Sweet 70's yellow counter tops, lol! New Stainless steel.
New Kenmore Elite Stainless Refrigerator. I love it!
Only only window in the kitchen. But we got have a sliding glass door that goes to the deck as well.
These next two are pic's of my new Island that my grandpa made me out of cherry trees from his property. I love it!
Our kitchen is ok. There are a lot of things that I'd like to change to brighten it up and modernize it. It's a smaller kitchen but it's very open so getting around isn't a problem. I like that it's attached to the dining room and during the day with the window and sliding glass door, it's pretty bright. Someday I'll get to replace those horrid counter tops.
This is the only picture I have available of our kitchen (taken from my Lighthouse Diaries blog)
Since this photo, we have purchased a new oven, the table (which was way too big for the room) has been moved into the dining room and replaced by a small island.
Also, what you can't see in this picture is more cabinet/counter space to the left...and then next to the dining room entrance we have our fridge and next to the fridge we have another small cabinet with the microwave sitting on top of it and additional cabinets above the microwave and fridge.
We re-did our kitchen around this time last year. While it definetly isn't my "dream kitchen" (nor is this our dream/forever house), it is a massive improvement from what it was and I love it. When we bought our house, we did so b/c it was a better financial decision than renting a townhouse/apartment, which had been our plan. Once CB finishes school (in 2 yrs or so), we plan on selling, so everything we do in this house is with a very close and careful eye for resale. I think we'll see the return on our investment for this one!

(I took this from my so-not-updated Nesting bio...)
There wasn't much that we needed to change to the kitchen - all of the appliances were relatively in good working order, and the cabinets and hardwood floors were fine for us. The only thing that bothered us was the dishwasher, but it's good enough for now. And thanks to Chris' parents doing their kitchen over, we inherited their stove... much nicer than the one we originally had.
When we first came to see the house, this little corner really jumped out at me. We have a built-in bench that opens for storage, and a built-in china cabinet, which currently doesnt hold china, but rather our various wine, martini, and margarita glasses. It's cozy, and the table and chairs set went with it all well enough.
(Please excuse the mess....)

Sherwin Williams "Bracing Blue". Love it.
Here's ours. It's small and we want new appliances but I refuse to buy them until at least one of the ones we have breaks.
Our eat in area:
The curtains there are for the sliding glass door to our backyard. I really love our kitchen. We have plans for adding on which will add an island and a mudroom off of the eat in area.

That's the color of my den! I love it too

I've put it on my short list for the kitchen - thanks!
to really appreciate how our kitchen looks now, you need to see the Before pictures:
and After:
(pardon the mess on the counter)
Here's the eating area. Inside the frames are black and white copies of pics I took in Paris. To the left side of the table is a small desk where my laptop lives and where we pay bills.
Close up of the table. I bought it on Craigslist and painted it white and distressed it. I got rid of the chairs that came with it cause they were NMS. These chairs are antiques from Josh's family which I reupholstered.
On the other side of the table is a sliding glass door which leads to the deck.
There's a window bench on the other side of the kitchen - on the same wall as the sliding door.
Here's the other side of the kitchen with the cabinets. I'd like to paint them white, but we'll sell eventually so it's really not worth the effort, because they're in great shape. There's a bar top on the island that I'd eventually like to get barstools for. The gas cooktop is on the other side of the island.
Here's just another little area.
I don't have pics of our appliances, but they're all stainless steel except for the double ovens, which are black. My favorite thing about the kitchen is the white Carrara marble countertops:)

We didn't in the kitchen but we did in our 1/2 bath that is off of the kitchen. It is an Armstrong locking laminate. Kevin's company is a direct carrier of Armstrong so we got it right from them but Lowe's sells it and so do many flooring places. (Not home depot though)
Here's the one we used.

Also Michelle. I have to say I LOVE this floor. It is durable and I think it looks nice. We have natural hardwoods everywhere else and this floor looks good with it. It doesn't show doggy foot prints from when they come in from outside. They clean really easily and I don't have to worry if water spills or whatever because they won't get ruined like hardwoods or wood laminate KWIM?
When we put our addition on we'll be using this floor in the mudroom.

This is our house right when we moved in in 2008. It was brand new construction, so we haven't done anything to it (as you can tell, I think the sticker is still on the oven door in the picture) Please excuse the massive mess. It looks better now
)
Our kitchen looks like a war zone right now!
This is what our kitchen looked like when be bought our place (yuck!). It's a small galley kitchen but has good appliances and we have a separate pantry for all of our food, so there's decent storage space. We're replacing the cabinet doors and painting the cabinets white, getting a new granite counter top and under mount sink and new tile floors! We're hoping this will be a good investment since the rest of our place is modern and updated and the kitchen was an eyesore:
This is the granite we're getting (being installed on Monday!):
The cabinets will kinda look like this:
This is the granite with similar cabinetry:
And this is the tile we're doing on the floor:

Breakfast room. I bought the table from a yard sale and painted it in college. We are tiling our bathrooms now and plan to do the kitchen, breakfast room, and laundry room this summer. When we do that, I'd like to get a new table. I'm really liking the bay window with no blinds. The roses and irises are starting to bloom.
And this is the view from the breakfast room looking into the dining room. My only other kitchen to-do goal is a black refridgerator. This one was free from my parents, so that was great, but I'd really like it to match the other appliances.
Heh - I don't have any kitchen photos but this is what I found through google:
We have some Ikea jars on the counter to the left, a dish rack, and two bar chairs. Other than that, it still looks like this.
I need to take more pics of our home once it's been cleaned up.
