moms that pump(ed)

I know that Medela gets fantastic reviews...and I have the Medela Swing single electric pump, but if I plan to pump when I return to work, I'm looking for a double electric.  I don't really want to spend the $250+ on the Medela double electrics.  So, has anyone used the Lanisoh double electric pump?  It's MUCH cheaper, like $150. (I know some of you had some other pumps besides the Medela)

Looking for reviews, it's not something I need right now, but will in the future.

Thanks!

Re: moms that pump(ed)

  • I would spend the extra and get the Medela. I bought the Lanisoh and it did not work well and I kept getting clogged/infected ducts because of it. I would watch the bru ads, I know sometimes they put pumps15% off. Also, I know she's already born but you could set up a registy and set the due date for soon and put the pump on it since I think you can use your 10% reg. completion coupon on pumps.

Also, I don't know how big the Swing is or anything and maybe this is just crazy... but since they are cheaper can you just get another Swing and use 2 at the same time?

  • the swing was $150.  I bought it after I had R, and it will be fine to use during the summer when I don't need to pump for more than a bottle or two here and there each week...but I know I'll want a double once going back to work because I don't want to spend my WHOLE planning and lunch periods pumping.  (I borrowed one when I pumped with R and just bought new tubing and stuff for it...unfortunately, I can't borrow it again)
  • I bought the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra.  It has great reviews, and it is a closed system, so no milk can get back into the tubes.  There is also a $50 rebate through ameda for it right now.  You can get it for $235 on amazon right now.  I can't speak for the pump itself yet, but I asked the girls on the breastfeeding board on the bump.  The girls seemed to prefer that one or the Medela.

I checked with mine, and they will only cover a pump if my baby and I had to be separated because she was in the hospital or something.  I used a coupon and store credit to Babies R Us to get the pump, so I didn't really have to pay for it anyhow.

I used the Ameda Purely Yours and it did just fine.  My cousin actually gave it to me.  She got it free and used it 1x.  It is a closed system, so I just bought all new tubing and everything.   I used a hospital grade one when A was in the NICU and that was the best of course.  I used a Medela when A was at Rainbow babies (in her room) and was not at all impressed with it.
  • I bought my Medela on Craigslist.  It was brand new, in the sealed packaging, etc.  I was able to buy it cash for $150.  I would also look there.
  • This is my dilemia right now.  I have the Medela Swing and I'm pumping every bottle for Emma because she was having nothing to do with the latching on in the hospital.  It works, but I'd rather have a double because of going back to work and getting more sleep at night.  I have a 20% off at BRU right now and I'm thinking about going and purchasing a double.  Using it for the next 11 months or so I know I'll get my money's worth, I just have to look at it like how much I'm saving on formula.

  • the swing is nice, plus I like that it runs on batteries so I can take it with me if I'm gone all day and pump in my car or something...but I know I"ll want a double when I go to work.

I'll just keep my eyes open for something to go on sale, I think.  (or see if I can find a new one on Craigslist)
