This seriously worries me because lately all we keep hearing from DH's daughters' mom is how they love Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister now. She bought them "outfits" for Easter photos and sorry but they looked a little trampy in my eyes and DH completely hated them.
Re: Scary article
It is ridiculous... last summer when my then 13 yr old niece was here we were in either A&F or Hollister the kid stores and there was this lacey see through tank bra like thing and I was like WTF is this.
She doesn't dress crazy but my brother will basically let anything else go. She just dyed a couple inches of the tips of her hair black which looks terrible.... she has this beauitful red hair and now with black tips. My brother keeps saying when he goes back this weekend he is taking her to get one of those 'door knocker' nose rings cause that's what she wants and when she is ready for a tattoo he'll take her to get one too cause if that's what she wants she can do what she wants oh and when she's ready to smoke pot he's down for that too.
Clearly this is my Charlie Sheen brother who should get father of the year.
HOLY CRAP!
Yea DH's 13 yr has dyed her gorgeous strawberry blonde hair brown. I don't like it. She looks so pale now. She asked her mother for a nose ring too! I truly hope she doesn't get one, pretty sure the mom said no. We will see them when we get them in May. Should be interesting shopping with them. I may need DH with me so he can really enforce what he wants.

LOL My DH used to tease me and say he wanted one I used to ask him why he wanted to be a bull.
To me they are not attractive on anyone. I had to wait until I was old enough to pay for and go to the shop to pierce my tongue and belly button. So shall my child.
Exactly. I got my belly ring when I was 22! I cannot imagine if I tried to get one when I was a teen. My mom was super strict though.
my read shelf:
LOL they are definitely NOT attractive! I'd like to say that my brother is just antagonizing my mother but he can be easily convinced by his daughter. I'll have to let everyone know when she visits this summer!
It's really horrible... I think this line sums up the problem:
"And not by these little girls who don't know better and desperately need their parents to be parents and not 40-year-old BFFs."
I think it's something many parents struggle with. They want their kids to like them and think they are cool - but kids need parents to set boundaries for them. Not be Amy Poler's character in Mean Girls...

I'm going to be honest with you guys. This is purely speculation on my part and some of the moms of older children may see it differently. I notice an odd kind of mompetition when it comes to this sh!t. There are some moms who seem proud of their "sexy" daughters and think it's cute. They like to talk about how many boys have crushes on their daughters. For serious. It's gross.
Amd, yes, the media makes it tough but this is definitely a case of the tail wagging the dog. If some stupid ass moms didn't buy it, it wouldn't exist.
This is my step-sister with her daughter (who is 10 now). My step-sis was very socially awkward as a child and didn't have many friends, and it's like she's living vicariously through her daughter now. Everyone sees it except her and her husband. She is basically grooming my niece to be one of the "mean girls." I can't stand it and slap the kid back into place any chance I get, but since I don't live around them, the chances are few and far between.

I was first exposed to this in highschool when they opened a middleschool dance club in Croton Falls and my friend's boyfriend was the DJ. We'd go and hang out with him and kids between 8-14 would be there with their thong strings pulled up to their ribs.
It was so gross, and most got out of the car looking like that!
I went through phases in HIGH SCHOOL, but my mom didn't approve that is for sure. I went behind her back when I colored my hair COLORS, she left me highlight my hair at 13. Piercings? I had to wait until 8th grade for my cartilage. I snuck in HS with a fake ID to get another piercing and got my nose pierced in college.
MY MIL is the biggest hypocrite when it comes to this. I was preached to about my nose, my hair, etc when I first got married of how my SIL would never have that etc. She is 7years younger.
HELLO: she works at Hollister, never wears clothes, has NO REGRETS tattooed on the INSIDE OF HER LIP! MIL took her for her belly at 16. She had her boyfriend sleeping over and in same bed at 15. Yet DH and I couldn't share a bed MARRIED on the first family vaca. WTF?!
I am 100% for school uniforms because of the way teens dress lately.
i love this phrase: whore-friendly panties
and this: The way I see it, my son can go to therapy later if my strict rules have scarred him. But I have peace knowing he'll be able to afford therapy as an adult because I didn't allow him to wear or do whatever he wanted as a kid.
I had my belly button pierced at 12. My mom agreed to it because I was deathly afraid of needles and my mom thought i'd freak out first. I took it out when I was 27. Aside from in bathing suits, it never showed in shirts as I wasn't a skanky kid.
But I have issues with facial piercings, tattoos before 18, and this new A&F line of push up bras!
