Build up on shower head - natural cleaners

I know I could get CLR and get the shower head clean.  I hate the smell of it.  Is there something else that will work just as well.  I'm looking for a baking soda, vinegar type solution.

Re: Build up on shower head - natural cleaners

  • I use full strength white vinegar. I heat it up in a good sized pot, then I disconnect my shower head, and let it soak in the hot vinegar. After the vinegar is hot, turn off the stove--dont simmer the shower head. Rinse, and reinstall shower head.
  • Agree w/ vinegar soak.  You could also fill up a ziploc with vinegar and suspend it around the shower head with a rubber band to soak the head without taking everything apart.  It would do it in the am and let it soak all day, at least.
  • Depending on the type of buildup, you could try peroxide.  It will only work if the buildup is organic (think: mucky, green-and-black moldy gunk).

Otherwise, the hot vinegar works really well.

    This is what I do!
