Cricut Expression machine
Ok, I'm sorry can someone please fill me in on what you use this for? From what I've googled it's great for scrapbooking, but can it be used for other things? Like making decals? etc? There's one on sale @ Target.com in the daily deals in case anyone is in the market for one.

So, do you use it mostly for scrapbooking? Is the machine automated, like it knows what shape to cut? Sorry, I apologize if these are really stupid questions. I'm clueless.
You have to buy cartridges for it. Each cartridge has different images on it. Yes, I use it for scrapbooking and various other paper crafts. Honestly, if you are not into scrapbooking and paper crafts I wouldn't invest in it. There are plenty of scrapbook stores that have die cutting machines you can use.

Cricut carts are universal, meaning you can use them in any cricut machine.
I don't know a whole lot about the Silhouette, but I do know the main difference is the Silhouette does not run off of cartridges. You can hook it up to your computer to cut images. The Cricut has the Design Studio that can do this, but it's extra. There are 3rd party softwares out there that can do the same thing as Design Studio, but due to recent lawsuits the MTC is no longer valid and SCAL is being pursued in court by Provo Crafts right now. Honestly, if you don't want to have to keep buying carts get the Silhouette. I've heard great things about it. I got such a fantastic deal on my Expression which is why I went with it. I do love the cricut, don't get me wrong, but you really have to look at cost over time. I have enough carts to last me a lifetime, so I'm pretty set.

Sheila - since youre the expert
Can I ask a few more questions? (Sorry to hijack the post) Have you cut fabric on it before? When you say that cutting fabric is more difficult, do you mean for the machine or just loading it and getting it to cut? What kind of paper do you use, regular scrapbooking paper or special paper? Also have you cut vinyl on it before? Is vinyl super expensive? Also can you share cartridges or are they like registered to a specific machine?
Thanks for anything you can answer the target deal looks like a good one, and I just want to make sure before I buy it that it is worth it to me. And like I said the site keeps crashing my computer, it is super annoying.

I haven't cut fabric yet, but ChrissyT has. From what I've read you need a separate blade for fabric only, very similar to having separate fabric scissors. The paper dulls the blade. No biggie, you can get them fairly cheap. You also have to use a binder with the fabric and have a new mat so it sticks well for cutting. It's kind of trial and error with the pressure and cutting speed too.
Vinyl is expensive relative to paper. You can find it on sale, so that will help.
Carts can be shared between people. I can loan you carts and you can loan me carts. They are not registered for each machine.
I use all kinds of paper. Mostly scrapbook paper and cardstock. I just did a crap ton of paper stuff with carstock for Gabe's party. Turned out awesome.
