Fingers crossed!!

So DH and I went to look at houses yesterday and we definitely found THE ONE. We knew it the moment we walked in the door. It is so far above and beyond anything else we've seen in terms of quality and we just love it so much. We made an offer on it today.

The bad news is, the house went on the market less than a week ago. They had an open house on Sunday and apparently many people recognized that it was a steal for the price. We're competing against at least 8 other offers. The asking price was already at the top of our price range so we went out on a limb and offered $5k over asking price. With 8 or more other offers, it's probably unlikely that we'll have the high bid, but we're keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

Re: Fingers crossed!!

  • Fingers and toes crossed! You never know-- my first house went on the market and within that first day, I and another couple put in an offer. I thought I lost the house, but then the other couple's financing fell through! So bingo! I got the house!

I'll keep the juju going for you...

  • I agree with Daniele - just because you've got some competition, doesn't necessarily mean their financing will go through.

    Fingers crossed for you!

  • You just never know in the real estate biz. Goodluck!!!!
  • My fingers are crossed!  I agree with Daniele and Mel.  You never know about the other potential buyers financing or how competitive their offers are.  They could be offering asking price or over but still under your offer.
  • Very exciting!!!  GL and fingers crossed!

  • Thanks for the support ladies, we just heard back from the realtor that unfortunately there were 3 offers higher than ours. Pretty unlikely that we'll be in the running even if the offer they accepted falls through. This whole home buying process is such an emotional roller coaster... I keep telling myself we'll get the house we're meant to have but we've seen nearly 45 properties in the last month and a half and none of them even came close to this one.

I think DH is relieved though... we were really stretching the upper limits of what we can afford anyway. Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise.

Darn it!  I'm sorry you will miss out on this house but the right one will come along.  I think we looked at about 40 houses and buying a house through a short sale was definitely an emotional rollercoaster so I know what you mean.  Out of the 40, there was only two other places we seriously considered making offers on.  It's hard to find the right house.  But you will find it; and when you do, it will be worth all the waiting and looking!
