Update: Friend & domestic violence

I got a FB message update that my friend who was involved in domestic violence recently has been transferred to a mental health unit at a hospital in Cedar Rapids.  Apparently she had a complete mental breakdown and is having manic episodes where she is just not in touch with reality.  Yikes.  I only know little snippets here and there of the situation so it's hard to say what is really going on.  It makes me wonder deep down though - did the abuse really happen?  Did it seem real to her if it didn't?  If it did happen, did it cause a mental breakdown??  I have no idea.  I worry about her but since we haven't been close at all in about 5 years I feel very detached from it all and am only getting bits and pieces of second hand info.  It's all very scary.

No matter what happened, I'm glad her kids are safe and she seems to be getting the help that she needs.

Hug your loved ones tight.

  • How sad, but at least she's getting the help that she needs. And she's in a safe place.

  • Agreed with PP.  The abuse (if its real) could have triggered a mental breakdown; I've seen less triggers before.

If she is manic, then she is in the right place getting the care and treatment she needs.  She is safe and her children are safe.  T&Ps for you.

No no no - T&Ps for her!  Don't waste any on me - I'm concerned but fine.

  • If someone is going to have a mental breakdown, it generally happens following a stressor or trauma.  I'd say chances are good that something bad happened that triggered this.  I'm not saying ti was necessarily the abuse, but I'd put money on it that there was some major stress that brought this on.  I'll be sending positive thoughts her way.
