I know its so bad for you...
but I want to go tanning soooooo bad!!
These are my reasons (rational or not)
- I've never used a self tanning products that I have liked.
- All of the spray tans I have tried have made me look like I have some horrific skin disease.
- Tanned fat is slimmer looking then stark white fat.
- I feel so good afterward. Its like a therapy session.
- Its a great way to unwind after work.
- I have very fair skin and burn so easily so I like to get a base tan before summer hits.
Anyone else go tanning, even though we know we shouldn't?

Re: I know its so bad for you...
I tanned before our wedding. Not that you can tell in any of our pictures.
I'd still tan if it was in the budget. I agree, I always feel better when I'm tan. I have to start out with such small times, that I don't feel like I'm being "as bad" for myself as those people that get incredibly dark.

Same reasons....but I'll add another one for me - I don't really feel the need to wear makeup when i'm tan...

My Bio
Oh yeah that is another good reason!! A little bronzer, eye shadow, mascara and out the door!
Mystic tans are what have made me look like a freak of nature the 3 times I have gone!! Can you find a place that spray tans by hand? I think that is more controlled and you dont have to worry about breathing it in as much.
I used to tan like crazy so I completely understand your reasons. And because skin cancer is so close to me now, I have to remind you of the risks (even though you already know and will probably think I'm annoying for saying it).
My mom has had skin cancer a few times on her face but it was always benign. My sister at age 29 had melanoma on her ear and had to have most of her ear removed. Then they also had to remove lymph nodes and other moles which has left her with a bunch of scars. After seeing what she went through (and thankfully it didn't require radiation or chemo) has completely changed me. Pale is beautiful too! Plus, wrinkles and leathery skin are not cute.
I really like Arbonne self tanner. It's kind of expensive and can streak if you're not careful, but I swear by it.
This. One of my previous bosses died from melanoma. She was only 35 and had to go through chemo while pregnant with her first child. She had to have him early because of the cancer spreading and just 2 weeks after he came home from the hospital she died. It isn't worth it IMO.
Wow Cschissell. That breaks my heart.
I often have the urge to go, but talk myself out of it. I haven't been in years.
First weight loss goal - 40lbs... DONE! Second weight loss goal - 17lbs...
I don't tan anymore. Haven't since before the wedding. And even then I would only go before major events or in the spring and would go maybe 1-2 times a week for a month max. I will admit that I loved the warmth of the bed, the relaxation. The "me" time. I loved the smell of the lotion I used: chocolate silk. Mmmmm. Lol. But yeah, I'll never tan again. Stories like the above scare me too much. The last time we went to the beach I used SPF 70 sunblock. Ha.
Yeah I was actually hoping some of you would have stories like this to scare me out of it!
I've never been a huge tanner. Just before special events and maybe a month or two before summer.
I don't go here... but that's b/c everyone here just straight up goes to the beach, while smoking a cig, drinking a caffe, and probably eating carcinogenic grilled meats. No, really, I promise... come over and tell me I'm exaggerating.
That said, naturally I tan. I've literally never burned/peeled in my life. As a kid (and this is half a product of my age... I was born in the '70s... and half a product of my natural olive skin tone) I literally never wore sunblock. Yes, today DSS would probably take me away, but back then it was all good (and frankly, I think I grew up ok).
Given that experience and the fact that I don't ever burn (e.g. I've been in Africa in Jul) it's legitimately hard for me to remember to use sunblock. I do try to use spf 5 on my face and delicate areas (shoulders, etc) when I go to the beach. But at the end of the day, I'm sure I still get plenty of UVs.
While I don't worry about myself (given that I've never burned and the likelihood of melanoma grows exponentially when you burn), it drives me insane when H doesn't use sunblock (even if he's walking to the car here in freakin' Feb b/c he's such a freckly burner). I also cautioned my dog's groomer (last week) to not cut her hair too short b/c her skin freckles (she's got belly freckles). Must get it from H
.
At the end of the day, tanning, like drinking and smoking, isn't good for you. Kids, unhealthy, and those prone to problems shouldn't engage in tanning. That said, if you fit into the 'maybe' category, you CAN do it, but you should exercise caution and prudence. Like everything else, over-tanning/sunning isn't going to work well.
Probably. I'm going to wait until it gets closer to see how much I actually care.
