I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!!
Apparently Mother Nature has gone and gotten herself a Big Bad Wolf - per this lovely weather we've been having. Our house seems to have emerged unscathed so far (knock on wood).
My week has been a little odd. Unusual gathering of neighbors. A whole lot of workin' out. Weird weather making my dogs a little funny.
On the down hill slide into the weekend, we've got plans every night but Friday this week. A running group party tonight. Zoo Blooms on Thursday. Cirque de Soleil tickets for Saturday. Easter Brunch plans for Sunday. I should be having a lot of fun and passing out from exhaustion about as soon as my head hits the pillow. Just the way I like it.
Re: What's Up Wednesday?!! - Blowin' Down the House Edition
Honestly, I'm mostly annoyed that the sirens messed up what was supposed to be the first decent night of sleep I've gotten all week! I get it, the storm is bad, seek shelter, but (a) we're between two sirens so we can hear them BOTH, (b) they went off three times, and (c) each time, I was thinking, ok, I live in a third floor apartment, it's the middle of the night, wtf do you want me to do? Stay awake and watch out the window?
Yes, I know the sirens did not have a personal vendetta against me. I'm just grumpy due to the lack of sleep. We're all fine at my place, btw. There are a million trees near us, though, and watching them blow around in the glow of the lightning was a tad too freaky for my taste. Glad the bad part didn't last long.
I considered going to the running group cookout tonight, but I have to work late, so probably not. I did find out I can defer my Pig entry to a future year and only pay a $10 processing fee, which made me happy in a sad sort of way. I'm going to circuit training this morning, back home for early lunch, and then out to hit up a round of appointments, with time for a Panera paperwork break in there.
Now I'm REALLY glad my 7:45 am doctor's appointment was cancelled! And I'm glad for coffee!!
Thankfully our house is doing ok (knock on wood!) from the storms. Not that I expect it not to, but with storms like these and all the rain we've had, you just never know.
Week has been nuts. I'm officially on day #5 of running our entire office by myself. I've done pretty darn well making sure everything is taken care of so I'm really happy & proud of myself. I haven't had a shred of time to get MY "normal" work done for the past 5 days, though, since I have no one else in the office. I'm sure that will come to a head very soon w/ the boss. I would really like for this rain to stop along w/ the storms b/c I can't catch my breath. I'm exhausted mentally & need a break.
I haven't been sleeping great this week and I fully blame the amount of stress & exhaustion for the majority of that. I really need/want a vacation (haven't had one since our hm so I'm long overdue) and now that I have no help, the chances of that happening anytime soon are zero.
Have chiro appt tonight after work which I'm excited for; my body feels like its been through the ringer this week! I always look forward to going b/c it makes me feel great!
Back to the grind to deal with mother's nature wrath! Hope everyone stays dry & has a great day!!
Its only Wednesday UGH!! but my mom is coming today and we are going to get a pedicure! I'm excited about that! Then she is staying the nite! Too bad she wasn't with me last nite. My dog seemed unphased! Which I guess is good! We've had the craziest weather since DH has been gone!
I agree with the no sleeping! These storms make me a wreck I just wanna sleep! Hopefully tonite is our nite!!
Alas, our piece of crud roof is still on our piece of crud house, despite the wind. We so need a new roof but I'd much rather have our insurance company foot the bill! Little puppy is fine with the storms, just doesn't like going to the bathroom in the rain. Big doggy is freaked out by storms-it's been a crazy few days in our house.
The weather had me freaked out. Actually my H, who I think is in L-O-V-E w/Steve Raleigh (channel 9 meteorologist), had me freaked out. He kept talking about the storm and how bad it would be... I didn't sleep well. Normally I sleep through any sound but when the sirens went off just after 1am I jumped up and made the dogs go downstairs. Luckily I only woke up a few times the rest of the night...
Today after work I need to clean up the house a bit since we have a showing tomorrow right after work. I'd like to go to mass since we missed the last 3 Wednesdays (they have mass on Weds. during Lent only). H has a funeral to go to after work so I'm not sure what I'll do other than clean and get my dinner together for tomorrow.
Tomorrow we are showing the house but it's during a time I had planned to have a friend over for dinner...so...after discussing with my realtor, he told me that it would be perfectly fine to cook while the house is showing (it's spinach and black bean lasagna that has to cook for an hour). Hopefully the people coming to look at our house like Italian :-)
Glad to hear you can defer your entry! I know it would probably be a bit of a bummer, but I think you should still come to the group get-together if you can. I've found that even I'm injured (which I was for last Summer's cookout), just seeing people that I run with can actually make me feel better. It's such a supportive group.
I'll add that when I threw out my back the week before the Mini-Heart in 2008 & could barely walk, I came down to cheer on the race. It was really cool to watch. You get a perspective on the run that you never get when you're actually running it - seeing the first runners shoot out of the gate after the gun goes off. Watching the first runner book it to the finish line. It was very inspiring. I brought my camera with me and got some great shots of my own (as if any shots aren't better than Bob's.
) I hope you'll consider coming down for the Pig - or hit the after-parties.
Happy (rainy) Hump Day everyone! I am up and running at the new job. Busy, but I like it that way! I've kind of caught up with how everyone's week has been going. Sorry for how sucky this week has been for a lot of you.
Hopefully it perks up soon. Well, back to work, just wanted to say hi so you all knew I was still alive!
Tonight really depends on how tired I am after work, and how late I end up working, but I'm considering swinging by. Because I wasn't in the group for too long and alternated between OH/KY, I feel like I didn't make too many connections in the group this time around. Maybe next time. Anyway, if I'm there tonight and you spot me, feel free to say hi. I'm 5'5", shoulder length blonde hair, and I'm guessing probably one of the only people wearing jeans.
(Although I did see a guy in a polo shirt and khakis running at Lunken the other night!)
I decided to volunteer at the Pig this year. I'm going to try to get a spot somewhere in the Mariemont/Fairfax section since that's a bike ride away. Not too sure about heading downtown - I very much hate crazy traffic/parking situations!!
That's really cool! I can understand about not wanting to get into the Downtown mayhem that parking will create. Plus it keeps you in the excitement of it.
I'll be in jeans tonight too. I ran 8 miles last night, so not really interested in 3-4 miles of Hyde Park hills in crud weather.
Monday night I just had a series of odd events that kept me up (posted in my blog, if you're interested). I only got about three hours of sleep that night.
Last night "something" woke me up around 1:15am. I don't know if I have ever seen a storm look that scary. Okay, look that scary and be all around us. We turned on the news as they were telling our county to take immediate shelter, so we padded down the bathtub, and put DD in there (she never woke up!), and the three of us & the cat camped out in there for about 30 minutes.
After that DH & I got out and went to the living room to watch the radar. Left DD sleeping in the bathtub. Kept an eye on the radar until the bad stuff got completely out of our county & my parents' county, which is east of Cincy. Then put DD back in bed (she still never woke up!).
This morning we discovered we lost 5 trees in the storm, a few shingles, a gutter, and there's random stuff from around the house blown thru the property.
What really struck me as odd is how some things got hit hard (full garbage can moved about 6 feet & around a corner), but other things (empty water bottle we accidentally left on the back porch) barely moved at all, if at all. It's just... weird.
wth is going on with this week.....now I'm stranded at a repair shop in eastgate with my car. It's been acting a little funny, just seemed like I needed to get the alignment checked and I was going to try to get an appointment this week. Then all of a sudden today I have warning lights flashing, the thing won't shift gears (automatic) and it's shaking like it's going to fall apart. AAARGH!!
Good news....I have my laptop and they have wifi, and I was just going to be doing paperwork for a little while anyway. So I guess I will do it in a smelly waiting room instead of at Panera with a latte. H is on standby in case he needs to come pick me up and let me use his car for the rest of my work day.
When it rains, it pours feels like an appropriate metaphor.
Definitely appropriate! I hope everything turns out okay and your car gets fixed!! It sucks being stranded.
It looks like I'll be a course monitor somewhere on Bramble. The organizers of Warrior Run are putting together a group of volunteers, and in exchange, the Pig will donate money for the Warrior Run. I'm happy that I'll be doing something for a good cause!
A little PR, too - the Warrior Run (not to be confused with Warrior Dash, which is a crazy obstacle course!) is a 5k, and it will be on 10/8 in Mariemont. H and I ran it last year and it's a beautiful residential route, FLAT!!, and even though it's small, had some really great course support. Plus they had a total food feast afterwards, free family movie and other activities. It's in the evening, so no getting up before dawn! And it benefits a teen suicide prevention program. So run it!!!
I am literally going between
,
,
, and wanting to do this
now.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
