Can you use HE detergent in a non-HE machine?

I know you can't use non-HE in an HE machine, but is it okay the other way? DH bought HE detergent but we don't have an HE machine. Do I use the same amount? I know it won't suds as much.

I'm not crazy, I've just been a very bad mood for the last 40 years!

Re: Can you use HE detergent in a non-HE machine?

  • yes you can. you dont need to use as much as a non HE detergent becasue it is more concentrate. Read the label and it should tell you how much to use.
  • I'm sure someone is going to say that using it voids your washing machine's warranty but a repairman told me that it was totally fine. I usually just use half of the amount that i'd normally use (not filling the cap above the 2 line).

  • Our Ecos detergent has two lines on the cap - one for HE and one for non-HE.

eta:  We do not have an HE machine so we use a little more detergent according to the Ecos cap.

  • You can use both in either. Use more HE detergant in a non HE washer and use less non HE detergant in an HE washer.
