Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>

Re: buying baby clothes

  • I wouldn't buy too much.  Personally, we got a TON of clothes as gifts.  People love to buy baby clothes.  We did buy a few outfits ourselves because I wanted to pick out something myself.
  • if you are going to buy stuff buy 3 months so that it will last longer...Kevin hardly fit into the newborn clothes he had and we were lucky that he fit in them for a little bit. Also, I wouldn't buy a lot b/c you don't know how big baby boy is going to be. We are having an issue with clothes b/c Kevin is so long that he has to be in 6 months for pants but can still fit into 3 month onesies but not 3 month shirts. Its confusing to say the least and I don't know if the clothes I bought him for fall and winter of this year are going to fit him down the line, so I wouldn't waste your money.

  • Seriously, don't buy ANYTHING!  I got so many outfits at my shower that I kept the receipts of stuff I bought and returned it all.  My child is set from newborn-9 months!!  I even had to return a ton of outfits people bought us because there was no way he would ever wear them all.

  • Don't buy anything until after your shower, then you can figure out what you will still need, if anything. You will get a TON of clothes.

With that said, I know it's almost impossible to not buy a few things after finding out the gender, so stick with size 0-3 months. Don't bother with Newborn sizes. The 0-3 will fit almost right away no matter how big or small he is. If he's big, the newborn size may not fit him at all. Don't worry about onsies and crap...just buy a few cute, irresistable outfits!

  • Even though I have no kids of my own only the experience of helping my sister with her 3 and the families I was formally a nanny for. I agree with pp. If you want to buy stuff I wouldn't buy much but I would invest in the swaddle mes in different sizes and materials. My sisters kids all lived in these and those nightgowns that were just open at the bottom.. When your overtired and groggy the last thing u want to struggle with its crotchsnaps or zippers. and the babies seem to really like to be swaddle and sleep/nap better as well.I suggest getting a few of them bc One bad day with a few blowouts means you could go through them quickly. Also you might be able to get some good end of season deals on boys stuff in 3-6 or 6-9 month to use for next year but I def wouldn't go crazy with clothes. HTH

  • Ditto, try to hold out until after your shower. You wont believe how much stuff you get.
  • If you gotta buy something buy big. 6+ because everyone buys little.

We had 2 boxes filled of stuff my mom bought and what I bought, I returned a few things but everything else we kept and some he never wore.  I only bought 6-12 months on sale, I had rules for buying.

I still would hold out.  My SIL went NUTS with a clothesline present from my niece.  I have tons of clothing in 6-9 months.  He is set for the fall!  You also never know how fast your child will grow.

  • Unless you see something special that you'd really like to buy, like others suggested, I would wait until at least after your shower.  I did not have to buy any clothes for D until he hit 6-9, 6-12.

As for sizing, D never wore newborn-ever!  As a matter of fact, the day before my C-section, when I had my last u/s, his estimated size was so big, I had to run out and buy a new coming home outfit.

I would not even go too nuts buying bigger- you just never know how your baby is going to grow.  D is really tall and was in 12 months at close to 8 months- I would never have anticipated that.

It is so fun to shop, but it made me sick to see all of the clothes that he did not even get a chance to wear.

  • Oh also, with anything you buy, staple the receipt to the tag. That came in SO handy fir me. I return so much stuff now.
  • I'd wait.  I can probably count on one hand the times I've actually bought clothes for K, and she's got a closet full of cute stuff.  We got sooo much as gifts, not so much from the shower, but as welcome baby gifts when she was born.  Most of the stuff we got was NB and 0-3 months.  She wasn't even that big but the NB was really too small, it only fit for the first few days.

Buying big is hard too, bc you don't know how fast or slow they will grown. For example, K was in 0-3 months for a long time (like until maybe 8-10 weeks old) but outgrew most of the  3-6 months  stuff within  few weeks because she had a major growth spurt at 3 months old. She's only on the bigger end of average percentile wise but she is wearing 6-9 months now.

  • Agree w pp. Right now we are on baby clothes overload. I would definitely wait 'til after your shower (although baby clothes shopping is so much fun). Maybe you and DH can pick out a going home from hospital outfit together?

  • It was completely the opposite for us!  I got next to NOTHING for clothing at my baby shower.  Everyone bought things off of the registry instead so, i was happy that I had bought a lot of clothing myself. G ended up in newborn clothing for almost 2 months (even though he was 7lb, 14 oz at birth) so, DH had to go out and buy a bunch of newborn outfits.  You just never know.

A good tip though - if you like Carter's clothing (we love it) buy there and keep the reciepts/tags.  Their return policies are phenomenal.

  • honestly, wait until after your shower, we recieved a ton of clothes.... but none that were newborn and hardly any after 6+months, you wont need a lot of newborn unless baby is small or premie....  ash

  • We've received so many clothes that I haven't had too buy much.

whatever you buy/receive just wash a couple things in Newborn size.  2 wks before Mj was born I was told an estimate of over 7lbs at that point.  He was born  6.8 lbs and swam in newborn clothes.  however I was born weighing almost 10lbs so newborns barely fit me.

When I go shopping now I buy things on clearance to use next year. Already I have a couple sweatsuits, jackets, christmas pj's etc..

Also I stocked up on a box of newborn diapers and then a number of size 1's.
