BCP Question

I've always had a very heavy period. I've been on Yaz, Yazmin, and am currently on Ortho Tri Cyclin. I'm going to the doc this week and want to see about switching to a pill that may lighten my period.

I need to stick with the Pill, since insurance doesn't cover an IUD or the like. Any recommendations?

I've had a nuva-ring for the last 4 years and am a huge fan. It lightened my periods very well, but I have to watch what I eat due to the potential weight gain (made that mistake once... don't wanna do it again.) Insurance covers it, and it's very hard to screw up.

I'm on Loestrin fe 1.5/30 and love it! I used to have terrible periods and now they are only 1.5-2 days pretty light and no cramping, stomach issues or anything

I looked into the Nuvaring, but my insurance won't cover it. I'll look into Loestrin.

You might also check into Depo Provera shot. It lasts for 12 weeks. But make sure to ask about side effects, etc. because it can do some pretty crazy stuff but it also works differently for everyone.

I used lo-ovral until recently (we're TTC). My periods were usually 3 days long and very light. I had no side effects. I started taking them bc of heavy flow and lots of pain and cramping. There is a generic (that might be the generic name) so it should be fairly resonable (it cost me $23.50 copay). GL!

Hi! I'm on Yaz too, but I've heard that the pill seasonique (im sorry if i spelled that wrong can make you have feewer periods. I hope this helps!

I have very painful, heavy, lengthy periods with endometriosis and Seasonique has been a life saver for me. The placebos are only once every 3 months, but I skip those (as directed by my doctor) and no longer have a period at all. It's great. The only part I don't like is low libido sometimes but there's no other side effects.

I've also been on Loestrin 24 Fe, and it worked well. My periods usually only lasted 1-2 days. The reason I switched was because I was still having cramps and hormonal acne. But again, I have endo. so that could be why.

Another vote for Seasonique/ Seasonale. (similar pills). Unlike PP, I did take the placebos and had periods every 3 months. There are cheaper generic versions of them as well. If for some reason your insurance doesn't cover them, you can do the same thing with monthly packs of pills. Talk with your doc about it and they'll prescribe more packs/ year and you can just skip the weeks off. Good luck!

I was on Seasonale (well, Quananse, it's generic) and I loved it. I can't stand Aunt Flo, so having a period 4x a year was great. My period was about 5 or so days with the first two days being the worst. I also didn't have problem with cramps, but I did feel pretty nauseated the first day. It was pretty cheap...only $20 with my insurance which is a pretty good deal for a 3 month supply.

My sex drive wasn't the best while on this medication, but it was definitely better than the 3 other BC pills I've tried in the past.
