Hi 9-5, I don't normally post here, but had a quick question.
I had two interviews for a possible job last Thursday and Friday and they said that they would be making a decision sometime this week. The interviews seemed to go really well.
Yesterday I got an email from the recruiter saying that they had activated the background/reference check on me, and that a third party does this and it could take up to 5 days. The reason for the email was so I could call the third party vendor that does the reference check and give them my info.
So I am taking this as a very good sign that I got the job-they wouldn't go through all this trouble if they weren't going to hire me would they?
Re: Opinions-Did I get the job?
It probably means you're a finalist, and if the background check goes well, they will likely give you an offer.
But nothing's set in stone until they actually make you an offer.

In my experience, they do not check references or backgrounds unless they plan on making you an offer or are seriously considering you and another candidate. Using a third party cost the company money and isn't done frivolously.
Good luck!
