Moms - shoes for babies/kids?

Dumb question.

When did/will you start putting shoes on your kids?

L is 15 weeks and I send her to dc with socks or footed pants but I'm not sure when I'm 'supposed' to start putting shoes on her.

  • i plan on putting shoes on lucas when he really starts crawling. right now since it's warm out i just put him in socks

  • it's my understanding that babies don't need shoes until they're walking-and I think I remember reading that not wearing shoes is really important so they can develop muscles and wiggle their toes, etc.

Max is barefoot almost all the time. but only because he pulls his socks off. and sometimes his pants. but that's another story...

  • I have some shoes that were given to me that I think I put on him twice. He has sandals on today as my mom has him outside in his car bouncy thing so his feet are bouncing off the ground. Other than that, when he walks. I'm not a fan of shoes really as I think they are a PITA to put on as they tend to keep falling off and Logan also has very fat feet so not many fit him. He always just has socks on till the weather gets warmer than it's barefoot.
  • I have no idea what the answer is.  Francey is still in socks, and, we need to get bigger sizes.  I only have one pair of shoes (robeez ) that would fit her right now. I kinda don't see the point in them?

  • I started with soft sole shoes (Robeez) when she started crawling (to get grip).

I think I switched to hard/firm sole shoes after she started walking (when I knew she would be walking outside). In the house she still wore soft sole shoes.

  • probably when he shows signs of being able to life himself up and stand. for now we do put crib shoes on him once in a while but its because they look cute.
  • Josh's first pair of shoes were purchased so they'd look cute in a Christmas picture.  They were just soft ones and served no purpose other than looking cute and possibly keeping his feet warmer in the winter.  He didn't crawl until 6 mo later so it was a fun dress up thing only.

  • We have some infant shoes that are really just for dress-up, but I didn't really start putting the girls in shoes until they started walking.

  • I only put the kid in shoes when I take him out.  I started that in the winter to keep his feet warm.  My ped said it's best to let them be barefoot (indoors) at this stage because it helps them when they are starting to crawl and walk.  I always thought the opposite and was going to get him hard soled shoes to help him walk and the dr told me they are more of a hinderance to them.

  • I didn't start with shoes until he started crawling and even then only when we were going somewhere.  As a few people mentioned, it's best for them to be barefoot when learning to walk

Someone gave me a pair of Robeez for Charlie and I liked them.  With Sam I discovered that Target makes knockoff Robeez that are just as good.  Pedipeds are also good

  • Ditto the others.

Emma has a couple pairs of the target Robeez.  She only wears them if we are going to be outside at the park and she might want to practice walking. Also if we're going to be somewhere I don't want her socks to come off, like when she is in the bjorn.

She has a couple pairs of shoes she wears for pictures on holidays.   I don't plan on doing regular shoes until she's an established walker.

  • Jd had a few pair of pedipeds during the 6-12 stage and some chucks crib shoes but usually he was in grippy socks. I did cave and buy some cutesy soft sandals for baby girl, it was very hard to resist. i realize they are pointless but i dont care. i like the soft uggs for girls in the winter too when going out and not in a full piece thing

  • I read in more than one place that kids aren't supposed to wear shoes, especially hard soled ones. With that being said, Brooks wears soft soled ones. If he doesn't he cracks his toenails crawling around.
