Re: open house: extra rooms
I showed our office (could be a bedroom too) on the guest/spare bedroom today.
Today I want to focus on the basement since I have new pictures of the progress.
First let me describe the lower part of our house:
Our house is a split entry, so when you walk in the front door you go up the stairs on the right to the first floor and down stairs on the left. When you get to the bottom of the 7 or so stairs there is a landing with 3 doors. The first door on the right is a big closet that is underneath the "up" stairs to the first floor. The 2nd door on the right goes to the basement. The only door on the left (across from the basement door) is the garage. On the outside the garage is at ground level for our driveway. But on the basement side the builder built up the land so it is half under ground. We have a small retaining wall between the driveway and the front yard/walk way.
So basically the basement takes up almost half the lower level and is one big room. We are pushing back the wall that the door to the basement is on so that it is flush with the back wall of the closet and looks flush on the inside, but you will turn 90 degrees after the closet to get to the basement door. We're also pushing back the wall at the end of the landing closer to the furnace behind it to give the landing more room.
Okay, now for pictures:
New door, as you can see the door is now flush with the wall next to it, and a new wall was built on the right side to wall in the utility area:
The old door, lined up with the front of the closet; you can also see the new wall blocking in the other side of the utility area. The old door and 2 walls will be demoed:
We recently put in the fireplace and had the gas line run and inspected (that is the back of the house):
I'm going to be an AW. Here's our upstairs hallway and a close-up of the photo collage I started (I want to add probably a good 10-12 more photos and frames of various sizes of vacations and such):
Doors l-r are guest bath, laundry, large guest room, smaller guest room, M's door is not pictured, but is on the right-
Front entryway and hallway into the kitchen-
M's photos going up the stairs (newborn, 3mo, 6mo, 9mo and 1yr- as we have more little ones each frame can be changed to have each little one's photo at those exact ages as we archived the pics with JCP to be able to do that).
Our basement- it's a walkout and still unfinished. Eventually it'll be a man cave, and extra room (gym??), and storage and open to a patio for entertaining, but now it houses storage, a ping pong table, and a foozball/air hockey/activity table. View from stairs off of kitchen-
View from doorway to outside of entire basement, there is a 2nd staircase in the back that leads to the garage-
View from far wall during construction-
Our laundry Room is upstairs (LOVE it) and it has a small drain under the washer in case it overflows, that drains to the basement so we won't have flood damage. This pic was taken when Sebastian was still alive and his litter box was in there
We plan on adding shelving to the left eventually as the wall dips back over a foot there and I'll put a shelf over the washer and dryer for my supplies.
Our loft area at the end of upstairs hallway over the garage is our office. Our kids will use the computer here so we can spy on them. All designed with IKEA and also an old photo as I was too lazy to clean and show off our new iMac. :P There is a 2nd set of stairs to the left in this pic that goes to the family room.
