Re: Composters
we have this:

I picked it up a couple of years ago at TJ Maxx.
We located a smallish stainless steel canister with a rubbery plastic lid that we use in summer to keep the fruit flies to a minimum. (Note: DH also got a venus flytrap to help eat the bugs, and then refused to use the lid because he wanted to "feed the plant." That stupid plant ate like 10 of the 60+ flies we had and I killed the rest. This year we WILL be using the lid!)
Like Kristy, we like that it doesn't hold on to smells and can be rinsed out with water and even run in the dishwasher if we wanted. It is big enough to hold 3-5 loads of coffee grounds, 10 egg shells, and a few days of fresh produce waste like banana peels, garlic skins, and tomato tops. It's heavy enough that it doesn't tip over easily. It is small enough that it fits by the faucet and isn't too heavy to carry out to our unruly "compost pile."
It took us a while to find it (getting one with a lid was hard) and we just happened upon a single one on clearance at BB&B. So it was cheap, which was also a requirement! I don't think we every found anythign online that really met our desires and budget, so we just kept looking around while we were out and about.
we have a cheesy plastic pail with a cover that I can't wait to replace :-) I like the suggestions above!
I have my eye on this
