she's been doing better but still wanting to sleep next to us. it was getting frustrating. she also wouldn't fall asleep alone and that was stressing me out so last night we gave it a shot. i've been reading HSHHC and decided to do what worked for us.
i noticed that when she was STTN we were doing everything earlier and lately we've been doing it all later. so i assumed that perhaps we were getting her past the point of being able to sleep on her own.
last night we went back to giving her dinner at 5:45, put her pj's on, played with her till 6:20 then brought her in her room to read her books and nurse her. she didn't appear tired but the book said that doesn't mean she isn't. it also said that sometimes the yawning, rubbing of the eyes, etc... is a LATE sign. in any case, the second i started to feed her, she got sleepy (she doesn't always get sleepy while nursing so i was on to something!).
i put her down at 7:07, kissed her, put on her projection and left. she screamed. we turned the tv up LOUD while we made dinner. LOL after 10 minutes i went in, played with her hair, told her i loved her and left. she screamed. we ate dinner through the screaming. when i went to go in 10 minutes later i realized it was quiet so i checked out the video monitor first. she was asleep!
she woke up later whimpering but i waited the 10 minutes before i went in and she fell asleep first. she began moving around again a few minutes later and moved off the angelcare pad so that went off. james went in there and she was on the other side of the crib in a ball. he moved her into the center, told her he loved her, gave her the paci and left. she cried. for 4 minutes. this was at 9:45
never woke up again until 6:45! whoohoo
i just tried it again for her am nap. she cried for 10 mins, i went in, rubbed her head, walked out. she cried. i decided to pump so i wouldn't be tempted to go in (it's harder doing it alone). she fell asleep within 5 minutes and took a 50 minute nap.
of course she is supposed to be sleeping at my mom's tonight. im sure it will undo everything we accomplished. but in any case, she fell asleep on her own so i am happy!
Re: so i somewhat ferberized last night
Good job Jess (and James)! What a wonderful feeling, right!?
Tell me, what was the process for putting down at nap time? It's looking like we're going to have to start this for naps b/c I just don't have the time or patience anymore for the second nap (his harder one) to rock and potentially hold the whole time.
**I have HSHHC and the Ferber book so if you want to just point me to sections, feel free. I haven't read a page - just bought them months ago - lol.
YAY! Glad you made some progress! I had no idea that the rubbing of the eyes was a late sign. BOOO I'm soo bad at reading signs. We didn't get Daisy's I have to pee sign until we put up a freaking bell so she could tell us.
I shudder to think what is going to happen when LO arrives
This made me lol.
Yay Jess for making progress!
Yay!
Did you cry at all? I remember crying.

Great job Jess!
It's great when Z can start to answer you, because now we ask if Xander wants to go to bed, we either get yes or no. Last night he told us at 810 he was ready to go and he didn't make a peep until 530 this morning.

Yay for all 3 of you!
Summer, for naps for Kiley, she would only nap on me and or on my bed with me laying next to her for the first 6 months. I knew I had to stop this and put her in her crib to nap, but one I loved the cuddle time together. So while my MIL was here with us for the week, she started to put her down in her crib and let her cry a bit, sort of like the Ferber and she would fall asleep. Then I tried it the next week and it didn't work at first for me, she would just cry, so I would go in every ten minutes and it still didn't work, so the one day I laid on the floor and she finally fell asleep, and finally she just falls asleep now. She cries for a minute or so, but stops. I give her a 4 ounce bottle before I put her down. But I don't check on her anymore when she is crying because I know she will fall asleep and she isn't crying for longer then 5 minutes.
thanks everyone!
summer, i am emailing you!
i didn't cry because it worked fast. the first 10 minutes i was so frustrated i was pretty strong. the second 10 mins i started to feel really bad but then she fell asleep. if it continued then i am sure tears would have come. tears because i feel for her and tears because i feel for us. LOL
