Does anyone really believe he'll do it?

"The Donald" Trump?

Does anyone actually believe he might launch a bid for the presidency? That he is serious in all his "Birther" claims and "I''m richer than you think"????

I just don't buy it - I think the guy is a fame addict and his stupid reality show is tanking (who are his supposed "celebrities" anyhow??) and this is his pathetic attempt to stay in the spotlight . . .

. . . and  yet, according to some polls, he is favored for the nomination! How is that possible?  I thought the American electorate (specifically the right-wing-nuts) had hit a low in clammering to hear the idiotic rantings of Sarah Palin . . . and then they somehow sank lower by falling over themselves to worship Michelle Bachmann 's dillusional narrow-minded and factually incorrect blatherings . . . but to support Donald Trump?!?

While a large part of me thinks this is all just a publicity stunt, the fact that so many people are nodding their heads in agreement with him REALLY scares me.  His ego is as large as his hair is foolish - he might just believe what he is saying and follow through!

 What are your thoughts?

Re: Does anyone really believe he'll do it?

  • I couldn't have said it any better...

I don't think he'll run, I think its all a big publicity stunt. The polls favoring him for nomination are from a self-selected population of people and are not representative of the population.

  • I loathe The Donald.

That said... it scares the sht out of me, but I know people who would vote for him. A coworker, for example, likes him SO MUCH and really wants him to run for president because "he speaks in ways that make me understand what is going on."

Every day there is something new about The Donald and his rumors of running, she comes to work and goes nuts about what she heard, and how he's going to be a great president.

    I'm scared. Honestly, terrified. He's a lunatic.

I would love to see the R's eat their words in some ways - calling Obama a celebrity during the 2008 election, when they have a celebrity of their own running. Of course, they won't eat their words, because The Donald is a businessman, and they'll ignore the argument about his celebrity completely.

ETA: Unrelated to Trump, but related to Republican policies/politics - I am surprised and impressed that Governor Brewer (AZ) vetoed the Presidential Birther Bill...  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110419/ap_on_go_ot/us_obama_birth_certificate

According to the (vetoed) bill - I wouldn't be able to run for POTUS in the state of Arizona because I don't have my original birth certificate. I have certified copies of my birth certificate, which were more than valid when I needed my social security card, or when I needed a passport, but it wouldn't be enough in AZ if I wanted on the Presidential Ballot. Of course - my dad DOES have his original birth certificate (it looks so strange!!) and he took that with him to the DMV when he applied for his first ever passport at age 50, and they laughed at him and made him buy a certified copy of his birth certificate because his original was ridiculous and so not a legal document by today's standards.

  • Well, if the choice is Bachmann or Trump, I say "go Donald!"

It's not because I think Trump is a great candidate, it's that I don't think anyone could be a worse candidate than Bachmann. The thought of that woman running our country scares the living daylights out of me.

I don't identify as either a "blue" or a "red" person, I feel pretty firmly planted in the middle. But, I do agree with Donald on one point ... our country is a mess and we're a big joke right now. I might not agree with him on anything else, but I do agree on that one point. I don't blame any one politician or any one party, I think people on both sides of the aisle have contributed to our problems, but our country is a hot mess right now. I'm not comfortable with where we are or the direction we're going. Washington needs to get their act together ... the D's and the R's!

But ... to answer the original question ... I don't think he'll actually run. I think it's a publicity stunt.

  • The guy obviously has some business sense or he wouldn't be where he is.  But does he have political sense??  I just don't see him sitting down with the president of whatever-country and coming up with plans to solve world peace.  He belongs in a board room on a silly reality show or cutting the ribbon on some tacky gold-leafed casino somewhere.

I also think it is a big publicity stunt and give a major side eye to those taking him seriously and saying they will vote for him.

(But like PP, I would vote for him over Bachman any day.)

    Ugh.  I hate politics.

  • I think he'd probably do it.  It wouldn't be the first mogul/celebrity to run for public office.  I mean, Jesse Ventura was more of a joke than Trump is.

But does he really have business sense? He has had 4 business bankruptcies.

All while R's say that Obama is bankrupting our country.. yet they might consider putting someone on the ticket who has shown that he does quite well at filing for bankruptcy. Huh?

That pretty much sums up my feelings.

Every time en election comes around, I find myself choosing who to vote for based on who seems the least evil. I never really like any of the candidates.

Exactly what I was going to say!!

Plus, the guy contradicts himself all the time (is he pro-life or pro-choice?? Should the rich pay more tax or less? Depends who's asking!) and has bragged about how he has ripped-off people (granted, it was his business dealing with Gadaffi  Indifferent  - - whoooolle 'nuther issue there!)  . . . and he simply doesn't listen to reason if it doesn't align with the point he's trying to make (the whole Birther argument).   These are hardly the traits of someone I'd want running the business of the country!

Who has recently said if Trump does run, he wants to be his VP candidate.... can you imagine?!

I don't think he's going to run...it's all for publicity for his show, IMO.

  • If the only choices were Trump and Bachmann, I'd choose not to vote
  • I believe he'll do it. Though I think people will see him as "someone who knows how to make money" and not really look at what his platform is... He would get votes.

As for Bachmann... can we just send her to STFU island and leave it at that?

While I agree that our country is a mess right now. I do NOT agree with Trumps reasoning behind this. His idelogy is firmly planted in this notion that "We are America and we should be Number 1", The best, the greatest, blah, blah, blah. I think thats a load of crap and hugely responsible for why we are so screwed up. Its a load of imperialistic BS if you ask me. ;-)

  • I don't think he will actually do it.  I agree that it's a publicity stunt, but I think he is just getting all the R to support him and then he will turn around and endorse a candidate, asking all of his supporters to do the same.  Which, seems pretty smart since there really isn't a front runner for the GOP right now.

I, also, however don't care enough to look into it further than that.  Smile

Totally agree but I don't think it's just him.  Look up the definition of imperialism and you'll probably find a picture of the U.S.  I think a lot of politicians - and voters - feel this way, whether democrat, republican or something else.  Why else would our defense budget be so huge while the budget for things like education and social services be so low?

  • He's got way too much of a dirty past in his personal and professional life to make it to the White House - at least I hope that's the case.  I hope he reveals his bluff soon.
