How are they growing so far?
Mine has really taken off. I wish it would rain though! I've discovered the bulk of the random squash plants that sprouted were butternut, I've got about 10 of them right now the size of my first.
I have 20 tomato plants and they're all growing well, most look like they're either roma or grape. I've been tying them up every weekend to keep them growing tall.
Also, 2 cucumber plants sprouted and they're looking good. Then I have 1 eggplant, it just started blooming the pretty lavendar flowers, so it's progressing much faster than last year!
I was hoping I'd have a red tomato by next week when my parents are here, I've got some pretty big green ones right now, but none of them are turning red
They have 10 days though, I'm counting on 'em!
Here's the front patch, all the butternut and cucumbers and 10 tomatoes. Some tied to stakes, some in cages where they randomly sprouted up. It's a hot mess, but it's growing well!

We didn't put a lot of compost or other nutrients in the soil this year because DH said there was plenty left from last year.... I think that might be part of our problem.
I'm surprised your peppers didn't do well. Ours were great last year, probably the most success we had. that's part of why im bummed they're still so small. our seeds we're growing outside on the front porch. is that bad?
in other fruit growing news - our peach tree is loaded! we just picked about 2 dozen and have a giant bowlful of peaches on our kitchen table. we should have a lot more too as long as someone doesn't steal them again this year.
And our mango tree that we thought was killed in the freeze seems to be coming back. I'm not expecting any mangos for a couple years though. ETA: the papaya tree, unfortunately, is a goner.

I wish I had been on the board then, I would have gladly given you some of ours. At one point I had 34 peppers of different varieties in my kitchen. I was making salsas & stuffing peppers like my life depended on it.
maybe we should have a produce swap gtg later this summer!
and leah, i am so so so jealous of your peach tree! i've spent a fortune on peaches the past few months, it's been my #1 craving.
We started our garden alot earlier this year than last year. Last year we didn't start planting anything until the middle of May and this year we started the beginning of March. So far we are having luck with our russett potatoes, garlic, rhubarb, onions and sugar pumpkins. The beans, cucumbers, squash and tomatoes seem to be growing alot slower than last year. We planted spinach as well and that never cam up, not sure what is going on with us growing spinach but we had issues with it last year as well.
We had some issues with squirrels eating our green bean, pumpkin & watermelon seeds right out of the ground so we had to start the 2nd batch indoors. Once they were able to be planted the dang squirrels pulled the seedlings out of the ground. Oh, and the little bastards were eating our strawberry plants. DH seemed to fix that by creating little baskets out of chicken wire that he placed over all of the plants. I will have to go out and take pictures this weekend of the progress so far!
Ugh, squirrels! I'd be pissed if they ate my strawberries! Last year I wanted to bomb my garden to kill all the horn worms so I totally understand.
I can't wait to see photos, it sounds like you've got a ton!
When we got to that point with our peppers I just cut them up and froze them. I cooked with them all winter and have enough left for one more batch of fajitas. It will be sad when they run out but it's been nice having them while they lasted!

That's a good idea, Leah! Our zucchinis also got out of control. That's how I discovered zucchini parmesan. I had to get creative.
K&K- We're having strawberry problems too. DH just got some chicken wire/mesh stuff. I thought it was birds...but maybe not. What even more annoying is that they don't touch them when they're green, but the second they get all pretty and red they eat them!
mint spreads like nobody's business. We had a planter with mint, basil, rosemary, and oregano. Now we have a planter with mint. haha.
