Easter Eggs

For those who celebrate Easter, do you dye eggs and/or hunt/hide them?

I haven't dyed any for a couple years, although I do enjoy it.  My Mom makes us hunt them every single year though.  All the older 'kids' used to hunt them to humor our little brother, but now our 'little' brother is 13 and over 6ft tall, yet we are still forced to hunt eggs.  My parents do put money in some of them now...I think last year I ended up getting $8 out of my eggs lol.

Does your family have any Easter traditions?

Re: Easter Eggs

  • The past couple years we've celebrated Easter where we lived and not at home with extended family (i.e. younger cousins).  But last year and this year I have babysat (my FG & RB) near Easter.  Last year we did just an egg hunt, but this year (I'm babysitting on Saturday) and making it a bigger deal.

I sent them an invite for an Easter "party" at their house, lol.   We're going to do an egg hunt, dye eggs and then a clue-egg hunt for a few bigger prizers I picked up at Michaels.  It'll have clues on paper leading you spot to spot and then the final spot has the prize (like: Look where you put your head when it's time for bed: under their pillow).

And last time I babysat we went to a neighborhood party and FG won a small DQ ice cream cake.  So we're using the coupon for the party to have an Easter cake. Lol.

I am a huge dork, but I love being creative with the kids!  Still working on my clues if y'all think of any!

  • We are in West Virginia every single year of my life for Easter, and that's where all the kiddo cousins are (we now range from 56 years old to a 1 year old in cousins, and there are like 65 actual cousins), so we've always had egg-dying, hunts,  baskets made up, whatever.  As my wave got older, we usualy get 1 bigger basket with a ton of candy in it for us to share.  The youngins still have their hunts and we all still dye the eggs.  Usually someone gets coloring books, and even the older cousins end up making pics and putting them on the fridge, cause that's just what we do.. there are about 75 people in my great grandmothers basement for Easter weekend, so in case we aren't crazy enough, we all get a liiiiittle crazier lol

This year I'm making Easter Egg cake pops as my dessert conrtibution and I'm so excited because the kids andddd adults are going to love em lol

That sounds like so much fun though!  I love to color.  Whenever I go visit my grandmom in the nursing home, we sit and color together, and I always pull mine out of the book and hang it on her closet door...I'm pretty sure the staff in there thinks she has a 5 year old granddaughter, not a 26 year old one lol.

Let me know how your easter egg cake pops turn out.  I made my first batch of cake truffles a couple weeks ago but couldn't seem to get them to look very smooth.  You'll def have to post pics!

    Have fun!!!

    How creative and fun, Hannah!

Hmm other clues...you could do "Look where you make sure everything looks right" and put it by a mirror.  Or "Look where you scrub-a-dub-dub" and put it in the tub.  "You put these on your feet in case you step in goo" and have it be in their shoes.

I take hunting things literally and make sure my eggs reflect that.

Does the top right denote gingers?  There are a few on this board.

How many wizards have you caught?

so cute!! I'll write these down, thanks Xan!

The first few times I made cake balls they were so rough looking lol  I finally realize that you can add just a little shortening to the melt aways to make the nice silky coverage lol.. trust me, mine never look like that frikkin photo - but I'll still share my pics of em with you all!

  • The youngest of the "kids" in my family, is this person here (my cousin Kristen).

And she's 25 now.  LOL  But we still hunt eggs every year.  It's supposed to rain this year.  :-(  We might have to hunt inside.

  • Kearstin - 65 cousins?  Seriously?  Besides my sister and I, there are 6 cousins if you add up both sides of our family - so 8 of us total. I can't imagine 65!

    Hannah - super cute idea!

Xan & Tisha - I love that your parents/families still have you guys hunt eggs.  I was the baby, so that ended a LONG time ago.  My mom still makes baskets for Chris and me, though.  And I'm sure as soon as Carter can understand what to do (maybe even if he can't!), my mom will be hiding them for him.

Wow!  That's wild.  Seriously.  Our family picture from the wedding including all cousins, aunts, uncles, etc., still doesn't beat this.  Haha!

And does the dog count as a cousin?  Because I think (s)he should.  And if that's the case, then we have two more...Dottie and my uncle's dog (who looks just like Dotts, and they actually got her because they loved Dottie so much when they met her!).

  • This is the first year that we won't be having an easter egg hunt with my family. We are supposed to go to Lance's grandma's at noon on Sunday but since we had some family drama last night with Lance's SIL (brother's wife) and if I have to see her someone might not make it out alive I have decided to forgo Easter with his family :( I feel bad but I am afraid for what will happen if I go.
