http://www.amazon.com/Immortal-Life-Henrietta-Lacks/dp/1400052181/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303421610&sr=8-1
Discussion Date: Online - Friday May 20th / Possible in-person Saturday May 21st, location TBD
We will choose the June book the week after the May discussion via poll, so please be thinking of some books to suggest for next month.
Anyone who wants to join in is welcome - even if you have not posted in this thread. The only rule is that you have to finish the book by the discussion date.
I am excited to get this started, I think it will be a lot of fun!
ETA: All the details for this month's book.

Re: DFW Nest Book Club - May Details Inside
I'm game. I like the idea of a G2G and a thread, just in case.
Also, I've never actually done a book club, so what exactly am I supposed to do besides read the book?
Count me in - and that book sounds great. Also, I've never been in a book club, either. So, what do we do?
Maybe this will encourage me to finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo quickly, so I can start the new book in May.
Whew, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who didn't know what exactly a book club involved!
I was also going for one book a month... I read about 4 between Christmas and the end of February, but haven't read since. Oops.
The one book club I was in met at various people's houses, there were appitizers and drinking wine outweighed the discussion of the book.
Aside from reading the book, I'm not very good at seeing the symbolism and all those other things you had to do in English class.
Excited about the book club! The book mentioned is fine with me. I have a general rule that I do not purchase books; I just request them from my library and wait until they come in. (I know it is weird, but I am passionate about the library. It is a story/soap box for another day)
Can we decide on a discussion date? (GTG or virtual) Then I will know if I can wait for the library or if I need to purchase. This will also give everyone a deadline to complete the book.
How a book club works: In my past experience it was a coffee & dessert or wine & appetizer gathering at a house, the person that chose that month's book led a discussion (thoughts on the book, questions about the book, how it applies to your life) and that was it. Sometimes it lasted an hour (if no one had a lot to say about the book) and sometimes it was longer.
I liked it and thought it was a lot of fun.
Preach it!
LOL! You have no idea how bad I needed a laugh today!
There are no real rules for a book club, just read the book and be ready to discuss. Don't worry if you aren't good on symbolism or plot details - this will be a no pressure book club.
How about 5/20 for the online discussion date? If everyone wants to do a G2G we could do it the morning/afternoon of the 21st. That gives everyone a month to get the book/read it. It also gives us the last week in May to decide on the June book. Does this date work for everyone?
Since I picked this book I will post the thread on the 20th with some discussion questions/topics and we can build from those. If we do a G2G I will bring some ice breaker discussion topics there too.
Ideally, next month someone else will have a book idea and they will be the leader for the thread/G2G.
ETA: I also just thought of this - we could also have everyone make suggestions for books and put them to a poll, whoever suggested the book that wins the poll would be the leader for the next month.
The last third of the book really picks up, and is easy to read. I had heard so many people tell me how wonderful it was, but unfortunately it took me a while to get through it because I know absolutely NOTHING about Sweden...I'm a little embarrassed to admit, but had to take breaks to google things!
A book club sounds like a great idea, and I like the idea of making a poll to choose the next book of the month. I'm in!

Stephie - yes.
Leslie - that sounds like a great plan. Will we have the first G2G at your house? Sorry if you already said that above.
Sara/Anna - I love the library
Brandi - I loved East of Eden. It's been a few years since I read it, though.
LD - I also know nothing about Sweden and it's frustrating me, as well.
Hooray!
I edited my post to have all the details at the top.
I am more than willing to host but I am not sure how convenient my house is for everyone. I am wayyyyy over in NW Fort Worth.
If it is easier for everyone we can meet at a centralized Starbucks/somewhere similar or if someone else who lives in a more central location wants to volunteer to host we can meet there.
I am not sure where everyone lives, so I am not sure what a good central point is. Any suggestions?

Feel free to use my house if you want. I live in Coppell and I have a large living room.
Just bought/downloaded it! Can't wait to start
