WW May '08 do?

So I'm getting annoyed with the place that offered me a job. I've been emailing back and forth with the guy, but all we have set is my start date. I still don't know what my salary will be or any specifics about the job. He asked me in the last email what I wanted to get paid, I responded, and he said he would direct me to someone else to finalize it. That was Monday and I haven't heard anything since. Its been a month, this stuff should be figured out by now.I don't feel like its really an official offer at this point because they're dragging their feet. I'm going to email him tomorrow and tell him I want to get my offer letter before I move so it doesn't get lost in the transition up there. I feel like thats pushy, but like I said, its been a month.

I got a call today from another place asking me if I wanted an interview. I told them I already accepted a position. When I talked to FI, he told me to set a date and email this other company back if company #1 doesn't have everything finalized. I'm thinking if I don't get anything by May 1st I'll do it.

Any thoughts? Am I out of line for thinking that this whole process is taking forever and more things should be finalized by now?

  • oh no!!!!!!!!! i agree with FI's plan. until you have that letter, it's not really an offer, unfortunately. they may come around but you need to CYA so you're not stuck without a job. i'm sorry they're being like that and hopefully everything will be ironed out soon. i hate when things are loosy goosy like that.

  • I'd definitely take the interview. If you haven't signed anything you shouldn't feel bad about it at all!

  • I agree with MD and Kare. Take the interview unless you have a written offer signed in your hand!! Sorry they are playing around with you!!

  • I would continue to interview as well. Have you considered contacting the company's HR department directly to inquire? I don't think that would be a bad thing, since you need information that the dude isn't giving you.

    Good luck!

  • I would definitely take the other interview.  You could also use that as a bargaining tool with the place that is dragging their feet.
  • I would have gone ahead and done the interview now since it has been a month.  If they can't get their stuff together to even hire someone it sounds like it wouldn't be the best company to work for anyway.
