Poll: Do you have a land line at your house?

We're going to be getting rid of our land lines and going with cell phones only. I know this is pretty common, just curious what others do.

The main reason we've kept the land line until now is for the house alarm system but we're going to be looking into a new one that doesn't depend on the land line.

And oh- talk about  a hard sell. Try calling the phone company (or cable) to cancel something. I couldn't get the person off of the phone.

  • we have a landline but it's because we live way out in the country and our cell phones don't always get reception out here.

  • No, and we never have. I think maybe when we have a kid, but still highly unlikely. I think is it a huge waste of $ considering that our cell bill is $200/month.

  • We got rid of our land line several years ago.  The extra cost was just not worth it then.  I think we will probably get a land line once DD gets older for safety reasons.  We have a friend who's husband is regularly home with the kids alone and he had a seizure out of the blue.  Thankfully my friend was home with her cell phone.  Their 7 year old is old enough to know to call 911 but would not have been able to get to his dad's cell phone since it was in his pocket and he was lying on it.

  • We don't, but had a voice over phone when my business was in my house. Which if the internet hiccups, doesn't work anyway.

We are considering it when we have a baby for 911 purposes. We get cell reception but the comfort of a cheap-o plan will make us feel better.

  • We do- always have...I can't see getting rid of it...

  • We do, if for no other reason than to have a local number. (both of our cell phones are from away)

  • We never got one when we moved into our house almost 2 years ago.  We've talked about possibly getting a cheap land line when the kids get older but we'll make that decision when the time comes.

  • We do, but it's because of our alarm system.  I don't even know our phone number, and I have only answered it maybe twice when someone (telemarketers really) has called.

  • When we had a land line, the only time I ever used it was to call my cell phone when I couldn't find it.  So no, we do not have a land line anymore!
  • We had one and got rid of it because I only used it to call my mom and grandma. But I do miss it. I think when we have kids we will get one back. Depends on the pricing too since the cell phones are so much.
