question about dresses

I noticed a lot of the girls at brunch last weekend were wearing cute casual dresses. I was trying to think of the last time I wore a dress and can't remember. Maybe a year ago? So I was wondering...

How often do you ladies wear dresses? Just to dress up? To work? As a casual daily outfit?

Everyone looked so cute, but to me dresses have always felt formal so I feel awkward when I put them on. I do wear skirts occasionally to work, but not in a casual setting. Maybe I need to loosen up and try new things...

Re: question about dresses

  • I wear dresses all the time. I tend to carry most of my weight in my bottom half so I own a lot of dresses because I can wear them throughout my weight range and be comfortable/not self-conscious. Right now I won't even buy shorts/pants because I'm still trying to lose and feel like it would be a waste, but if I see a cute dress that I know will still fit then I'll go for it. I got the one I was wearing at the Banana Republic outlet.

  • I feel you. After catholic high school, skirts/dresses were just not even on my radar. I'm just now starting to come around. lol.  I have one skirt and a few dresses, but I still really only wear them for dressy stuff, not casual. They are really cute.. I just don't even think of them.

  • I love wearing dresses, especially in the spring/summer. I probably wear them 3-4x week, especially now that I'm pregnant.

I get most of them at Old Navy and Target, they're pretty inexpensive. I like how you can dress them up or down with shoes and jewelry.

    Ditto (minus the pregnant part).

  • I love a good spring/summer dress. I have a few, but it's definitely time for some new ones. It's such a comfortable effortless way to throw on a cute outfit.

  • This is the first year that I've started wearing skirts and dresses more frequently. I have a few skirts from Old Navy that I can wear to work or casually. I also have a couple dresses that I wear to work that are a little more business casual. Like pp, I like them because they cover up my larger bottom half while I'm trying to lose weight.

  • hmm... so what I'm taking from this is my problem is that I'm more apple than pear, so dresses don't really hide anything for me.
  • If you need a place to start, I have and love both of these because I can wear regular bras with them:

    Dress 1

    Dress 2

Also I wear this under everything I wear.  Everything, but especially dresses.  I have a stockpile of them and wear them everyday to keep things smooth.

I'm not sure what shape I am.  Definitely not pear since I have a lot going on up top... but I have a lot of junk in the trunk too.  So maybe apple?  And I still wear and love dresses.  I think the right dress is flattering on everyone.

Agreed. It's all about the cut. I do enjoy that a good dress takes focus off of my hip/butt area though, so I guess that would put me more in the "pear" camp.

At least once a week.  To be perfectly honest, I usually were loose fitting dresses when I don't have any clean shorts that actually fit me.  They allow for expansion of the belleh.

OK, I will go to Target and try some of these. Promise.

I guess I agree with having to find the right dress with the right cut. If I'm not careful, I just end up looking pregnant in most dresses.

  • I am not a dress person. We have a friend that jokes that he's never once seen my legs and I've known him for almost 5 years now. My legs are so white that I don't like to wear anything that shows them. That being said, I do wear one to work when I don't have any clean work pants- maybe twice a month or so.

Now that I'm pregnant, that is starting to change. I only own 1 pair of jeans that fit me right now and I can't button any of my work pants, so I am starting to wear dresses more. It is rare that I will put one on not for work though.

I like the maxi dresses because they cover my legs, so I am on the lookout for more of those.

  • I hardly ever wear dresses.  I'm just not as comfortable in them, and my legs aren't my best feature so I tend to steer away from them when I'm shopping.  I do wear pencil skirts to work though every so often (for some reason, I think pencil skirts are more flattering on me than an actual dress).

My thoughts exactly! I wear dresses whenever and where ever I can. Its such a quick and easy complete ensemble. I love to dress it up with some accessories and heels or go casual with sandals/ flip flops.
