JUST MOVED TO OKLAHOMA

so this may be cheesy but i dont know anyone here i just moved here my husbands in the military.. does anyone have any advice on where or how to meet people here

Re: JUST MOVED TO OKLAHOMA

  • Welcome! Why don't you tell us a little about yourself....

We do monthly get togethers here. You can sign up for those. Also you could use meetup.com or get involved with a church. That's how I met a lot of great people.

  • Thank You very much... i live near norman.  how far is ginks from yall
  • I responded to your post on the Military Nesties board - but I'm in Oklahoma as well. Lawton is my hometown; I now live in Stillwater. If you're in the Norman/OKC area, there are a lot of girls there. If you need to know anything about Lawton, let me know - it's been my home for more than 15 years.

As the other girls said on the Military board, there are tons of ways to get involved. I hope you take some of their advice to heart.

  • Do you mean Jenks? Its right outside Tulsa. The Oklahoma Aquarium is there and I highly recommend it especially if you have little ones.

My DH is in the Army but I go to Tinker AFB for medical and shopping since we live in the Norman area. You could look into the activities on base in the Rec Center, they always have something going on.

  • Welcome! I'm a Lawton gal too. I hear ya on the meeting people part - most of our friends live in OKC/Norman, but we have met some of our local friends through work or hobbies (DH likes to bike and run and met some other guys that way).

I've lived here most of my life, so if you need any Lawton tips, let me know. I like it because it's a small town with the conveniences of a larger city (restaurants, Starbucks, shopping) and it's a close trip to bigger places like OKC or Dallas. I also love that we live so close to the wildlife refuge - I never get tired of seeing the buffalos!

  • thanks everyone. i go to lawton twice a week.  i would like to know what there is to do there.  and what is there to do in norman... besides movies?

    boymom21 where r u from in lawton?

  • i ment where r u from in oklahoma
  • i need tons of lawton tips bc when i go there i go to see my husband and sometime he ends up running like 2 or 3 hrs late so im stuck... so im all ears?
  • Like OULaw said, the refuge is amazing - it never gets old. You could take a drive around there or go for a hike. It's beautiful out there. Fort Sill has a lot of cool historical stuff, too, if you'd like to explore the post a little more. Fort Sill also has a movie theater, a few gyms and a bowling alley [big fan of the bowling alley].

Lawton has two movie theaters and the mall, along with a couple of bowling alleys and lots of restaurants. The girls who still live in town may know more about other spots that would be cool to see...I grew up in Lawton but have been back and forth for the past seven years, so I've missed out on some stuff, I'm sure.

  • I don't really have any advice on places to go or things to do in Lawton. But just wanted to say welcome to the board!!

As far as Norman goes, the OU campus is pretty fun to walk around. There are lots of little restaraunts on Campus Corner. There's a pretty awesome sno cone stand called Eskimo Sno. It's in front of the Homeland on Lindsey St. And there's an awesome little cupcake place on Main Street called Jemz Cupcakes. It's a little hard to find. It's under the little overhang thing at Hob Nob Rob's. You could probably google it to find out exactly where it is.
