A where-to-live question for a friend

Friends of DH's are moving to the metro Detroit area.  They want to know some areas they should look to live.  He'll be working in Ypsi, she's going to Wayne State.  They need to go to Howell 1-2 days/week.

Howell doesn't play as big of a role in where to live, but where they're looking also shouldn't be a 2 hr drive from there or anything.

Any suggestions of where to look?

Re: A where-to-live question for a friend

  • South Lyon, Whitmore Lake, or even Brighton.  From all three it's a straight shot south on 23 to Ypsi.  Easily get to Wayne state via 23 to 94 or 23 to 96 and Howell is straight up 23 and west on 96.
  • Canton is a nice area and a fair distance between all areas needed.

  • I live in Howell and I love it!  I like the small town feel and all the activities they put on for kids.  But if they are looking for a bigger city I second Brighton.  Either one has easy expressway access.

I agree... I work in Detroit and my husband works part-time in Ypsilanti and part-time in Brighton, so Canton works well for us.  The drive to Detroit and Ypsilant from Canton is about 30-40 minutes (depending on traffic) and the drive to Brighton is about 40-45 minutes.

Yep, and depending on where exactly you live/work, it might even be less of a drive.  It only takes me 25 minutes to get to south ann arbor & I drive through ypsi.  Detroit is really easy to get to from 94 or 96.

  • Thanks, ladies!  Plymouth/Canton was one of the areas I recommended for them!
