Wow just wow!

So if you remember correctly I had a post about a daycare we had trouble with.

Well apperantely we didn't overreact because this morning that daycare made the news about an incedent that happened before we started there. I knew something didn't feel right about this place. I'm glad we decided not to let M go there.

  • OMG! I saw that last night on the news and couldn't believe something like that would happen there. I'm so glad that you didn't let M go there!

  • Good choice going with your gut feeling. Who does that to a child??

  • Oh my goodness! So glad you went with your gut feeling!

I lived in the apartments next to that center when I was in law school.

  • Holy cow. Good for you, listening to your instincts!!
  • Women's intuition - good for you for going with your gut.
  • Like you said WOW! Glad your little M is not going there and you went with your gut.

  • I am also SO glad that you went with your instincts and didn't leave your little girl there!  I am not buying for a second that they tied that little boy to chair because he kept falling out.
  • I'm stunned that they could not safely/appropriately handle the little boy. If he was indeed biting or not listening, why not take him to the side and talk to him? There are so many things wrong with this entire case...

Good for you, following your instincts!

  • Is it wrong that I expected more of this place because it's a university day care which is training early childhood education and development majors? Good for you for doing what you knew was right!

I would have expected more as well!

I am SO glad you aren't sending your child to that center, and if I were a parent with a child there, I'd be removing them ASAP.

That being said, it's pretty standard for your child's primary teacher to not be there the entire time your child is, because they typically work 8 hour days, 5 days a week, to avoid paying overtime.  If you work at least 8 hour days as well, plus travel and lunch, it stands to reason your child will be at the center at least 9 hours.  That has been the case for every daycare I looked into.  I don't love it, but I get it.

Also, at the daycare we use, the 'kitchen lady' is also a qualified 'teacher' so if she was the drop-off teacher, then I could live with that, but I'd definitely want to be sure that was the case before leaving my child there and you obviously didn't have the chance to do that without the director there.

I was thinking the exact same thing. WTF is wrong with people. This scares me so much because I am about to start a search for a daycare for my guys and I'm already a mess about having to put them in full time care when they never have been. Have you found a new place or is miss M still going to her old DC?

Nope it isn't wrong at all. When I was at UCO we had to put in so many hours to go towards our degree at the CDC. We also had to log a certain amount at other college CDC's. The UCO CDC was very clear on the expectations, dress, hours, etc. I *think*, don't quote me on it, University/College run CDC's are a little more expensive than traditional CDC's so if you are paying more your expectations should be bigger.

  • Oh my goodness!!  Good for  you for going with your gut instinct and keeping M far away from there.  I agree with pp's--I definitely would expect more of a university DC.  It's scary that a place like this is training ECE majors.

right now she is in her old DC but starting in June she will be starting at a new place in Moore. Norman is ridiculous in finding top quality care that isn't a year on the waiting list. The place did find is a Christian private school that goes up to 6th grade. Don't know if we will keep her in there that long but atleast we won't have to worry about finding child care for a while.
