TMI Tues... ah, Wednesday night?
I'm in a nosey mood. What method of birth control do you and DH use?
If you are TTC or KU, go with the most recent form you used when you were preventing pregnancy. If it failed and that's why you're KU, spill it. If you've just switched to something new, let us know what you were doing before, why you switched, and how the new method is working out for you. Well, how you're liking it, not necessarily how it's "working" lol.
Re: TMI Tues... ah, Wednesday night?
Right now, DH and I are using natural family planning. The sympto-thermal method in particular.
I switched about a year ago. I was on BCP. Over the previous 8 years, I tried several different kinds: ortho tricyclen lo, loestrin 24 fe, yaz, azurrette -- they all seemed to have undesirable side effects. I was extremely bitchy, then seriously depressed, I gained about 30 lbs that I couldn't lose, and then finally my sex drive had completely disappeared. It was pretty bad. I never wanted to have sex, and I could barely get off the couch due to depression.
As part of my marriage prep for a Catholic wedding, we were required to take a course on NFP. And it seriously opened my eyes. I discontinued the Pill to start charting and everything has been looking up since. I've lost a lot of weight that I gained, my sex drive has gone through the roof, I no longer think of myself as "depressed." Added bonuses... my headaches have almost completely disappeared and I'm off medication for the headaches. I've also discovered some potential fertility issues (luteal phase deficiency) that we are actively trying to correct before we TTC in August.
So, it's working out great for me so far. I think it was the best decision I ever made.
Books read in 2012: 21/50
On nothing right now. I'm actively TTC, DH still panicked about it. Was on the Nuvaring and LOVED it. I stayed on it without having periods and it was awesome. I hate being off, hate the migraine I get about every 3 days. I'm always bloaty, gained 15 lbs coming off it. I have giant mood swings (I'm a weeper not mean). I had none of the above on BC.
I went on originally to help my migraines but I was told to get off almost a year before TTC because there is badness that they don't want to interfere with a baby. I also cannot take much of anything if I do get pregnant for my migraines so I've been slowly trying to deal with it and get off all drugs. It sucks the big one. Some people will miss alcohol - I'll miss my migraine meds.
Nuvaring kinda sucks thinking about putting in and taking out. But it's pretty easy, and I'm terrible at taking a pill everyday so it was much better for me.
I was on BCP for 10 years, mainly Ortho-TriCyclen, though I did try a few others (Yaz made me cry ALL the time) I mainly stuck with Ortho...I recently stopped taking the pill because I had zero sex drive, also I had heard that it can take some time for the pill to completely leave your system so I figured sooner rather than later would be better so when we do TTC we'll be ready.
I stopped the pill and started FAM in March. We are charting my temps and CF, and using condoms during fertile phases...since we just started and arent totally confident with my charts yet, we're using condoms a lot. Overall I am SO glad I chose to make the switch. I am learning so much about my body and I know that when the time does come to TTC, I'll be ready, and I'll have a much better chance of conceiving right away.

NuvaRing for two years followed by Mirena IUD. Getting the IUD was more of a financial decision than anything. My health insurance covered it 100% except for the $35 co-payment. In the long run it has obviously been much cheaper than the $50/month I was paying for NuvaRing. I've also saved money on not buying female supplies since I no longer get periods.
I also have a TMI question: anal sex? Or no? DH is always joking about wanting to "do it in the butt," but I just have no interest. Is it a guy thing?
H jokes about it all the time too, but he knows it will never happen...mainly because (TMI alert) of his size. There are times when regular sex hurts if we dont ease into it, I can only imagine what would happen if we tried anal. I can't help but think I'd end up in the ER lol.

We don't use anything for BC! Being KU prevents you from getting KU'd again
Last method was the pill, I went off of it and then we got pregnant so it didn't fail. I liked the nuva ring a lot when I was on that. I just hated the hormonal BC kills my sex drive
Angie - I've been thinking about you! I hope the conversation goes well! Perhaps you can just give him the bare essentials?
I am leaving Apr. 26th for the first round of training, and I am definitely going to ask the practitioners some of their insights regarding how to discuss this topic with a spouse!
To answer the original question, haha:
I was on the Pill years ago for a brief time but my main birth control for a long time was celibacy... even after marriage due to a frustrating pelvic floor issue. But we learned FAM - the Creighton method. We are really satisfied with Creighton as it has given us some great insight into my body and like catarntina, we are treating a hormonal imbalance that had me feeling pretty crappy for most of my 20's (while the Pill never made me feel better, I definitely felt crappy in my normal state too... I am so glad we are finally getting answers!!!).
We will start TTC soon!
