  • Hey Julie, thanks for asking.  Milo's doing pretty well, still working harder to breathe than we'd like, but it's not unusual for preemies his age at all.  Progress: he is no longer under lights for jaundice, and the doctor he's done with antibiotics and told me they'll remove his IV today - yay!  He is fed through a tube still, but they are giving him the milk I produce, another big yay!  Last night DH and I got to hold him... ah, that was bliss!  He was so calm and content in our arms... it was hard to leave.

The one big Boo! is that it sounds like they had underestimated how long he'd have to stay.  The doctor I spoke with today said he'd likely be there another week at least, and possibly until he reaches full term (or 37 weeks).  *Sigh*  One thing that makes this practically difficult is that I am not allowed to drive for two weeks, as I'm recovering from labor (which I forget about sometimes).  And DH has to go back to work, he doesn't get any paternity leave.  So I am hoping that my mom will come next week to help me and drive me to the NICU.  She is not big on driving, and gets spooked by NJ drivers, lol (and this from a Massachusetts woman) but I pretty much begged her... plus I could use the moral support... it is harder than I expected (expected?!? I didn't expect ANY of this) to deal with all the emotions running through me.

As for me, the sleeplessness has already begun, because I need to pump every three hours to establish my milk supply.  Basically I'm mimicking Milo's feeding schedule.  I'm very tired, but this is at least one way I can feel like I am helping him.  It is gratifying to see that I am able to produce more and more at each session.

I need to confiscate DH's camera so I can upload some more pics... he runs off with his point and shoot when he goes to work and I forget to snag it when he's home, lol.  Milo looks different every day... it's amazing to watch him change.

Thanks for the anniversary cheer!  We reenacted our cake cutting last night and dug into our freshly made top layer... yumma!  We might go for sushi on Sunday (something I wasn't expecting to be able to do since I would have still been pregnant)... mmmmmm!

  • Glad to hear that he's progressing relatively well.  I think about you guys all the time praying that he gets healthy and stronger so he can go home where he belongs.

The emotions are completely understandable, especially with everything you have gone thru.  Glad you got to hold your little guy.  I'm sure that was a wonderful feeling.

  • I'm glad he's doing better! I can't imagine how difficult it must be to not be able to take your baby home, but it sounds like he's progressing normally and you are doing as good as you can be.
  • I'm so thankful to hear that Milo is getting stronger every day!  Hopefully God works some miracles and he comes home sooner rather than later!  I'll continue to keep your family in my prayers!
