GAH. I'm fairly certain that our 20 year old washing machine died on me tonight. I washed a load of blankets, went down to change it and it completely went through the spin cycle without spinning. I just washed these blankets last week and it was fine. I had to pull them out and haul them upstairs and dump them into the bathtub. Darn it. I thought it was acting funny the other night too.
SO... I guess I'm looking for a new washing machine. Any good recommendations? Do you like yours? Do you hate yours?

Oops, I got into Dad's hair goop. At least I gotta mohawk!

Re: Washing Machine Recs?
Front page of Yahoo has an article on washing machines right now:

My machine also broke last month, similar issue. We got it repaired for about $100. Just a thought, you might see if a repair place would give you a free quote on fixing it, and could also perhaps tell you how much "life" would be left in the machine after fixing it. It may cost a lot less to repair the existing machine.
That said, if you do get a new one, the Service Plus guys who fixed our machine (who do repair for a living) told me that they would only buy Whirlpool or Maytag (those brands hold up the best), and to definitely get a top-loader and not a front loader. Front loaders are cool because the use less water than a top-loader, but they said they tend to break at least once a year, so you'll have high maintenance costs.
I'd also recommend getting home service plus on your appliances. You pay about $6 month per appliance, and they fix them for free.
