Do you have a tattoo?

If so, how many and what of? PIP if you want. Also, where did you get it/them done and would you recommend that place?

Re: Do you have a tattoo?

  • I have two.  I got a sunflower on my upper right shoulder my junior year of college.  I got my second one after my brother passed away and it is a heart with his initials.  I had the tattoo artist continue the sunflower stem through the heart so it actually looks like one tattoo.  No regrets :-)  The place I got the first one is out of business and I got the heart at Bear Nasty in Becker, MN and was very happy with them.
  • I have two.

Half moon and 3 stars on my upper breast. I got this at a local shop that has since closed.

A cross with a heart in it on my lower calf. I got this done at a shop in Anoka, I do recommend but do not remember the name of it.

I will be getting one this summer, not 100% what yet but will be on my foot. I am thinking of going to a place in Eagan my gf has gotten all her work there and loves it.

  • Sorry for the crappy picture with my cell phone.  It's really not blurry and faded in real life.

      image

From Nolan at Acme Tattoo about 9 years ago and I still love it.  I'd like to add vines and more flowers but I don't know if I can handle it.  The pain when he was going over my bones was pretty intense.  I don't have anything bad to say about him or the shop but I'd probably go to Holy Mackerel if I get another one.

A friend just had a huge one of a cherry branch done there and it's incredible.  The artist did it freehand and it actually looks like real cherry blossoms sitting on her shoulder and back.  Even DH who hates tattoos thought it was pretty cool.

  • I have 5 with the 6th being done in May.

    1. A tiny star thing on my hip. I got it the day I turned 18. I still love it.

    2. I started expanding on the first one. It was supposed to go all the way up my side. I stopped when the pain was too bad that it was reverberating through my other hip.

    3. Tribal turtles and hibiscus flower on back.

    4. Cherry blossoms with vines and leaves on back.

    5. The word Amor on my wrist.

    6. A paisley design (It will be done in May).

#2-6 all done at Electric Dragonland in Hopkins.

  • I have two and just figured out what my 3rd will be, first done at ink lab in MPLS, the 2nd and probably 3rd will be done at Beloved Studios in St. Paul.

1st, butterfly, lower right quadrant, still love it, got it my freshmen year of college.

2nd I have both my shelties paw prints tattooed on my left foot.  They even let me bring the dogs in to the shop to get their paws imprinted with bingo ink :)  It was fun and now I'll always have something to remember Scout and Kaiser :)

My third will be DS's birthday in roman numerals on my clavical ?sp?

  • I have one: the Korean symbol for Pil Sung which translates to "faith in certain victory" or "absolute victory."  I got it in Oshkosh (Steve's Tattoo) when I passed my black belt test in taekwondo.  It's something that we say when we bow.

That looks pretty sweet!  How long did it take?  Did it hurt badly?

I have no tattoos.  Don't think I ever will either.  Every once in a while I want one, however DH is really against em.

     This.

  • One.  It's on my lower back, though, so most times I forget I even have it.  I'm indifferent; I don't love it and I don't hate it.

Random story: When picking up tile at the Tile Shop for my kitchen backsplash project, the guy asked me if this was my first tile project (it was).  He then asked if I had any tattoos (I said yes) and he proceeded to tell me that tiling projects are just like tattoos - once you get one, you want more.  I have no desire for another tattoo and possibly even less of a desire for another DIY tile project.

Strength, your tattoo is amazing.  I could never personally do it, but I think it looks awesome.

  • I have 3 and currently planning a 4th.

    1. Japanese symbol for "older sister" on my right shoulder. My sister has the younger sister one and we did them together. Aloha Monkey in Burnsville.

    2. Tramp stamp with my name. Don't love it anymore, but I don't hate it enough to remove it. Also Aloha Monkey.

    3. Tree on top of my let foot. Originally done at Black Hills Tattoo in Rapid City, SD (poorly done). Redone at Canvas in Eagan.

I just recently decided on #4, which is going to be 2 snowflakes for the girls. I'm going to look into it this summer and probably get it done at Canvas as well. I haven't decided on a location yet.

I call my sister Sorella all the time! :-)

(And to be 100% accurate, sorrele is sisters. A = singular and E = plural. I know that because I almost failed an Italian test once.  Now I will never. ever. ever. forget.)  :-)

  • I have zero.  I have never had an interest, I can't think of anything I want on me forever and I don't like to intentionally inflict pain on myself.

I do like to look at them and enjoy the artistry.

  • Strength, my fellow scorpio, your tattoo is awesome! Thanks for the PIP!

    1. four leaf clover done at Bear Nasty in Elk River when I was 15 or 16.  Yes, I used a fake ID hehehe

    2. a memorial tattoo over my foot and up my ankle.  It is a butterfly (foot) which was carved into a wood shelf made for me by the deceased.   It has flowers and vines going up around my ankle.  Done by Lucky at Identity Tattoo (Maple Grove, I think).  I do recommend him.  He was the only artist I met with that would give me exactly what i wanted.  Several of my friends have since used him and are just as pleased as I am.

  • I have four.

1-Butterfly on my right shoulder (pic below) got the summer after I turned 18. It is small, took them less than 5 minutes! Got at Rising Phoenix, St Cloud

2-Purple rose with winging things that makes it look like a bio hazard . . . never saw it that way until someone recently pointed that out Tongue Tied on top of my foot. Got at Cornstalk Fest tattoo booth (country music fest in Regal, MN) No I was not drunk but I was not sober!

    image

3-Lower back tramp stamp (thats what they are called?) 2 Blue flowers that form to a v-shape with wingy things. Got at a random place somewhere near Buffalo, Mn. We set out to get them that day and I was with other people from the area.

    image

4-Pink ribbon (pic below) by my butterfly for my mom who fought breast cancer. My three older sisters and I were all down visiting our parents at the winter home in Texas and all five of us went together and got the same ribbon, but in different places. Not sure of the name somewhere near Pharr, Tx.

    image

The ribbon will likely be my last, DH is not a fan of them either. And since most of them were very random I probably shouldn't get any more unless I put more thought into them!!

I also had a number of piercings, much less permanent (and all gone now). Those I had done at Jeff's Tattoo & Body Piercing in St. Cloud - Highly recommend them for everything!!

  • I have gotten 2 tattoos, but only have one now....

The first one was a heart with wings and a halo that I got on my 18th birthday.  I didn't put a whole ton of thought into it and ended up really not liking it.  I put a LOT of thought into what I wanted to do for a coverup, and this is what I ended up with:

    image

It has a LOT of meaning for me.  The 2 swallows are for me and my husband. They mate for life, but also they are symbolic because no matter where they go, they always return home.  We knew that we would likely be moving away, and it is just a reminder to remember where we came from.  The blue and orange swallow is my husbands.  Blue is for his birthstone (sapphire), and the orange is for the MS ribbon color. His mom died from MS.  My swallow is the purple and pink one.  Purple for my birthstone (amythest), and pink for the breast cancer ribbon color.  Both my grandma and mom had breast cancer.  The 3 forget-me-nots are for my grandma and grandpa who have passed away, and for DH's mom. The scroll has writing in German because I am German, and used to live in Germany.  "Leben fegt durch" means "Life sweeps by" and it is a line from a poem that I love by Johann VonGoethe.  The poem says, "Rest not for life is sweeping by, go and dare before you die, something mighty and sublime, leave behind to conquer time."

Basically this tattoo is about remembering what is most important in life, and deciding what kind of legacy I will leave.  It is a reminder to do the best I can with the time that I have.

So yes, I put a TON of thought into my tattoo, and it has a ton of meaning for me, and I absolutely love it and don't regret it for a minute.  It was done by Brian at Ink Factory in Hudson, WI.

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • I have dolphin on my left ankle.  I got it when I was 19 and here in MPLS visiting my brother.  I got it some place in Dinkytown.  I really had thought that I had thought about that one, but my 36 year self doesn't think so.

I have the Chinese symbol for clarity on my left shoulder.  I got that one when I was 29 at Tatoos by Yurkew in Minneapolis.  I still love that one.
