This is totally stolen from a post on the Entertainment board about Performers lip synching in concert. The orignial post was in reference to Lady Gaga but ended up about concerts in general.
So... to quote the post::
I don't agree with charging people out the wazo to watch a big show and listen to basically the cd playing over the speakers while someone prances around. Britney's charging almost 200+ for her tour, and I'm a Britney freak, but I just can't see spending that much for lipsyncing.
Would you pay to go see a concert if it was a production rather than a concert with real singing?
That poster had me thinking because I know a lot of you ladies are avid concert goers... so I thought it would be interesting to 'talk' about
Re: Your thought on Concerts and Fees.
me too. i have been to total of 11 BSB concerts. my parents spent money on limo rides, parking. i was about 14/15 years old.
i haven't been to a concert since KROCK's disfunctional family picnic in 2004. I paid like 30 bucks for my seat and it was worth it. The show was an actual live performance not some cd to sing over. It was an all day concert. From 2pm - middnight. Well worth the money.
DH is shelling out money for U2 this summer as an anniversary present since I am OBSSESSED with the band. However, my temptation is to go to NKOTBSB in June but I refuse to pay anything over $40.
Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>
They are nuts. Luckily the majority of bands I loved growing up were cheap to see because of venues. I think the most we have paid was 100$ a tix for Bon Jovi/Kid Rock last summer and wound up selling them.
Also I have won a TON of tickets in the recent years through the radio and seen big names that way.
I just looked up KidRock for this summer and his tickets for lawn at 40$ so we are debating.
Overall I think spending so much money is redic.
Back in high school, I used to spend over 100$ on dave matthews tickets. I'm glad that phase of my life is over.
I would go to see a production and have in the past, but not that much money. Now, generally, I only go to bethel woods. Its cheap and more convenient than other venues.
MH is the concert-goer and goes to as many as he can make it to, but his taste in music doesn't really allow for lip-synched shows. I think I'd be okay with someone like Janet Jackson lip-synching a little but that's because I'd be so happy to see her or anyone else who I consider an icon.
Come to think of it, I might go to Summer Jam this year. They all sound terrible live so yeah...
i have to agree when i was younger i spent or shall i say my parents spent tons of money on tickets for me to go see BSB Nsync LFO Otown 98 degrees yes even Hanson & Britney Spears among others. Now there are very few people i will spend 100 or more on. Bon Jovi absolutely because not only am i a huge huge fan but i feel he's worth it. He plays for 2-3 hours and actually sings & puts on a great show. I really wanted to go see Britney this time around but the ticket prices are crazy. Ive seen her a couple of times back in the day & while i knew she was lip synching she was actually dancing and putting on a show where as now from what i've seen she isn't doing much of anything. So anyways i love concerts and will go to practically anything as long as the price is right. Unless its Bon Jovi i'm not spending more than 50-60 bucks
Diane - I think we paid $40 for NKOTBSB & i can't wait!!!

This made me LOL because B LOVES Britney and he hates concerts but was like I think I want to see her this time around and we watched a clip of her on Jimmy Kimmel and she was so fuc.king lethargic!! haha I was like I dunno if we should spend the money!
i'd pay $$$ for talent - there's a reason barbra streisand commaned huge tix prices and she doesn't stage a performance - she just sings.
i haven't been to a concert in years. i think U2 when i was in college was my last one.
i wouldn't pay for lipsyncing and i have no interest in seeing anyone that needs an entire cast to back them up and put on a show because the music alone doesn't stand.
I'm a big fan of live music. Local musicians and otherwise. I pay for the bands that I know put on a good show. I don't really like the Pop-py type bands out there. Sure, their music is great for going out and getting excited, but I wouldn't pay to see them. Lady Gaga makes me ill. But she's not my taste in music.
I used to follow the Grateful Dead and while they aren't everyone's cup of tea, you always knew the boys were singing on their own because the would flub their lines. Even with Jerry vision (aka teleprompter) they'd f**k it up. But they played. It was THEM playing and that's what matters to me.
I'm going to see the remaining members of the Dead this Summer. I paid $65 + tax for my tix. I didn't mind spending the cash, because I love these guys and I know I'll see them sing...mistakes and all. Same with Aerosmith. Well, Aerosmith is tricky. There are times I SWEAR Steven is lip synching, but I know Joe is playing his guitar, as is Brad, Tom and Joey playing their instruments. Singing his hard work. A lot harder than I think some people realize. When you're in a band like Aerosmith (and the poppy bands too) it takes a toll on your voice.
Sometimes I do cringe at the cost of tickets. There are bands I have on my list of "To see before they die" like Robert Plant, the Rolling Stones in some form and even former member of the Beatles, just because. Paul McCartney puts on a hell of a show, according to my cousin. Bruce Springsteen costs a lot, but man, does he put on a TERRIFIC show. He plays for 3 HOURS.
Would I be mad if they were ALWAYS lip synching...maybe. I don't really know. I think all the bands that require electronics to make them "sound better" its' what you have to expect and it's up to you and your personal choices if you can live with those high costs of tickets.
I don't think I made any sense. Sorry about that. I do love live shows. One of the greatest things in life I feel is going out to see a band you love and get a great show.
I'm not a big fan of that type of music. Britney, BSB, etc- I would never pay to see, regardless of if they lip synch or not. If they are putting on a good performance I guess that counts for something, but if you are billing yourself as a musician you might as well sing at your own concert.
I would pay a lot for a band/act that I think is worth it. I don't remember how much tickets were (pretty cheap though) but the best band I've seen live in the last few years was Coldplay.
Maynard is getting the band back together this summer. My brothers and I are planning on going.
I dont even want to think of the money I have paid on concerts....put aside the $$ on various artists that i have seen once or twice...I have spent good money on Springsteen (three times) who is more than worth every penny. I also have seen about 30 Hootie and the Blowfish concerts over the years and have met some great friends and travelled all over the country to see them. Probably a good thing that I have a baby now and that they are pursuing other interests for the moment...
And no, i would not pay lots of money for a lip syncher unless it was someone I really wanted to see and to cross off a "list". Example, I wanted to see Madonna, just once so I paid about $75 for a horrible seat but can say I saw her.
