Birth Story:

So on April 13th I had my 39 week appointment. I was 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced and my doctor thought he would be delivering the baby Friday morning (I thought he was trying to make me feel better because I had been up all night cramping and contracting). During that day I started contracting regularly but the contractions  weren't getting more intense. We still decided to head into labor and delivery that night when the contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart. Unfortunately it wasn't the real deal and we were sent home very disappointed. So we went home, I took a Tylenol PM  and the contractions finally calmed down.

The next day I was feeling fine. I went for my daily 2 hour walk and then went to meet a friend for lunch. That is  when I felt my first painful contraction. I went about my day as usual and by about 7:00 the contractions were about every 12 minutes and pretty painful. My husband and I had some sexy time and then went for another 2 hour walk to get some ice cream. It turns out during the entire walk I was in labor!

Around 11 we tried to get some sleep. Laying down was very painful especially since I was having intense back labor. By 2:30 I woke up my husband because I was having trouble getting through the contractions on my own. I called my mom around 3:00 because the contractions were about 6-7 minutes apart and she came over. By the time she arrived at 4 I was in a lot of pain and could no longer do anything but breathe through the contractions but they still were really close together. I wanted to try to go natural so my doctor told me I could labor at home until the contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. I was in so much pain I decided it was time to go to the hospital.

We got there around 4:30 am and I was so afraid I was just going to get sent home again. Well I was checked and I was already 6 cm!!! I asked the nurse if that meant I could stay and she just laughed at me. I decided to get the epidural and since I was the only one in labor at the hospital I had it within an hour of arriving. I had an incredibly painful contraction while getting the epidural so it took 3 tries for her to get it in. After that it was pure heaven! I didn't feel another contraction! When the next nurse (who was amazing and made all the difference) came on at 7:00 she felt the baby and noticed he was not in the right position. I was 7 cm at this point but because he was coming down sideways they had to turn him. By 8:15 she checked me and accidentally broke my water and I was 8 cm. Then things moved fast! They started prepping for delivery. By 9:00 I was 10 cm and ready to start pushing! Even with the epidural the feeling was unmistakable. She had me do some practice pushes and then stop since he was coming fast. They finished prepping and called the doctor. Unfortunately the baby hadn't turned all the way and I was starting to tear very badly. I had to have an episiotomy so I wouldn't tear everything, but I didn't feel it at all. After only 10 contractions and 30 minutes William Richard joined us!!! I had a 2nd degree tear and a lot of stitches. William came out screaming and had the cord wrapped around his head. After my husband cut the cord he was placed on my chest and I cried. He is absolutely the most amazing and beautiful baby I have ever seen. I didn't take my eyes off of him for over 20 minutes while I was getting cleaned up and he was on my chest. He started breastfeeding about 45 minutes after birth and is an absolute pro at it! And it turns out my doctor predicted his birthday perfectly! :)

My husband and I are so blessed to have our perfect son (who is sleeping on my chest right now!). Sorry this is so long :) Hopefully the pictures make up for it!
